For those of you who think this is a great thing because it’s bringing meaningful jobs to Louisiana... you are being very short sighted.

In 2014 Amazon had 14,000 robots in their distribution centers. Today they have 200,000 robots working. This number isn’t going to decrease. Within 5 years the majority of Amazon jobs will be robotic.

With closer distribution centers delivery times will be even faster putting the final nail in the coffin of brick and mortar stores.

I’m not saying this is a good or bad thing. I just wouldn’t look at it as some massive influx of jobs because the state is in good shape. This is happening in every state. Bezos is using the increased sales from the pandemic to complete his takeover of the market.

These are your jobs...

Well why don’t you tell me what the net job creation is when brick and mortar stores start closing because everything is same day delivery from Amazon.

Better to have employees that fix robots then employees that carry boxes IMO.

I guess I’m the only who never ordered anything from Amazon and don’t really see the need to.

Amazon is essentially doing the same thing that Walmart did to a lot of grocery stores in the 90s. It will reduce the number of brick and mortar retailers for sure but they won't go away.

If you don't like it shop at a local store and don't buy things off of Amazon.

It's convenient for some things but I might buy something on there 5-6 times per year. My wife buys a lot from Amazon though.

You are missing the point. We didn’t land the headquarters of some multinational corporation because Louisiana is a economic destination.

We got the same robotic distribution centers that are going up in every state.

Stop reading headlines only

I’m sure they’re modularizing those boys so that even a Southern grad will be able to plug and play the parts on maintenance.

Think about how much better Walmart is now that you can self checkout, use the app to find where to pick up stock in the store or simply have it delivered. Only jobs created are those that require opening boxes and putting shite on shelves.

Temporarily. The future is robotic.
