Unless they stole the money, it is not a problem, it is not a zero sum game, when the next Gates or Zuckerman comes along and grows their idea into a billion dollars my net worth will remain exactly the same.

Well that's not necessarily true.

Regardless, of course their wealth will continue to outpace the middle class when wages have been stagnant for the most part these past 10 years or so.

But as the saying goes, if you don't like your job, create one. High risk, high reward.

Would be interested in seeing the numbers with no income people being excluded. Do disability checks count as income?

Salon Even Knows It's the Top .1% With All the Money, not the top 1%, which consists mostly of professionals and people who've made it just passed middle management.

If that's what you want, then get in the top 1%.

The strength of the US used to be a relatively large middle class. The middle class is shrinking. The answers to the questions of why, how, and what should be is much more complicated than wanting to apply oversimplified ideas of economic efficiency to far more complicated systems. Saying that they earned it and deserve it is just buying into anti-American, anti-competitive propaganda that the rich have fed the middle class to convince them to go against their own best interests.

Why do I give a shite? The only thing that matters is that the SOL continues to improve and it undoubtedly has gotten better for just about everyone. When he poor in your country have iPhones, then they really don't have as big of problems as they are making them out to be.

I'm not going to get caught up in income taxes only when we're discussing wealth. I'd be more interested in their share of total federal/state/local taxes.

My guess is over half of the total income tax is paid by the 1%

Maybe we should stop subsidizing the breeding of the most unproductive segments of society.

Child: We like, totally need to do a socialism experiment to deal with this income inequality, it's outrageous

Adult: That's been done. After it ended, in late 90s Russia, 18 dudes owned 40 percent of the country

As I said, I'm not concerned with income taxes only, especially when we're talking about the top 1% of wealth. I'd be more interested in property taxes, income taxes, sales taxes, FICA taxes, etc.

As for the top 1% with respect to federal income taxes, they "only" pay 39%, so getting to 50% of the overall tax burden would be hard to validate.
