People seem to think the Taliban is not made up of Afghanis. Looks to me like they prefer the Taliban.

The Talibans theology is completely foreign. It’s all Saudi taught, and the product of the religious schools they built.

And the Talibán couldn’t have won without the direct aid and materiel support of Pakistan.

But the Talibán are a Pashtun movement. And they are not completely foreign, nor are they fully illegitimate.

Are they popular? The Pashtuns will fall in line. The Uzbeks, the Tajiks, the Hazara will not.

The Uzbeks are pretty much the original Caucasoids. Hence the expression, "Uzbeki with the good hair."

The war in Afghanistan had no draft. All volunteer army. Also No remote comparison to Vietnam in terms of numbers of service members there, deaths, casualties, etc.

We shut down training camps and massively disrupted al Qaeda. Shouldve pulled out 10 years ago or more. As long as it is made clear to the Taliban that we wont tolerate harboring of terrorists, then we ultimately won. They dont want to spend another 20 years trying to scrape their way back to power.

We kept "listening to the generals" and ended up losing a lot more lives and treasure than was acceptable. Neocons, ideologically globalists, and war profiteers should not be calling those shots.

The only good news about the Taliban taking over is that they hate the Opium business and when they were in charge they really put a dent into the production of it because it was flooding the streets of Afghanistan. Luckily for the US our President Bush Jr. thought it was in America's best interest to put Hamid Karzi in as Pres of Afganistan whose brother just happened to own the largest poppy fields (also one of the biggest global drug lords around) in all of Afganistan.

The Taliban and Karzi's drug gang will fight this out in very short order.

The Taliban also do not like the Chinese so their efforts at building the interstate system through Afghanistan is going to be tested.

Other than that our success in Afghanistan was a huge success by some anonymous accounts.

Agree,

Afghanistan should be nothing more that a live fire range for testing new weapon systems.

Absolutely no boots on the ground.

I've also seen reports of Afghan government soldiers defecting to the Taliban with their weapons.

Maybe they arent defecting. Maybe they were Taliban all the time.

The US no longer has the stomach to do what is necessary to win wars, I'm a little over 50 and we're an o-fer in my lifetime.

These people have been killing each other for thousands of years. That isn't going to stop.

Not our problem?

It’s everyone’s problem. The Taliban harbors extremist groups who then export their violence everywhere. That’s even before the ethical quandary of allowing a group you know is openly going to commit human rights abuses back into power.

I’m not necessarily in favor of staying there forever, but it’s definitely our problem.

NO! Screw that 3rd hell hole.

Let it be Australia's problem, or Peru's, or China, or South Korea, or Russia, or Argentina or fricking Indonesia's problem! I DON'T CARE! Just not us. Let someone else go over there and take of THEIR business. It doesn't have to be us. We are not the World's police.

Have to agree. What else are we supposed to do? Because permanent colonization is not an option.

It’s not a choice. We are too tied up in the region for it not to be our problem. Even if we weren’t entangled over there, the groups there would bring problems to us. See for example: September 11, 2001.

The idea that the United States can completely extricate itself from global problems is complete fantasy and has been since about 1900.

Completely agree. The reason I believe is that Congress has passed its power to declare war to the President(Executive) hence they have no skin in the game. We should never commit American troops to a War Zone without the Congress VOTING for or against.

on one hand, if I had a son/daughter that died fighting over there I would be livid that we are letting it go. On the other hand these retards have fought for 100's of years and aren't stopping anytime soon so who cares.
Well at least Halliburton made a killing serving meals to the troops.
