EGYPT’S SUEZ CANAL is currently blocked to all vessels after a mega container ship travelling to the Netherlands turned sideways inside the waterway earlier today.

The 400m-long Ever Given cargo ship, which flies under the flag of Panama, ran aground and turned inside the canal as it travelled north towards the Mediterranean Sea.

The canal, built in 1869 to connect the Mediterranean to the Red Sea, is the shortest maritime route from Europe to Asia.

It has been blocked in both directions for a number of hours despite attempts by a number of Egyptian vessels to free the ship, which is en route from Yantian China to Rotterdam.

I’ve made several trips through the canal. Suez pilots have a bigger racket than River pilots. First they demand 5-10 cartons of cigarettes usually they have to be Marlboros. You also have to have an Suez electrician to operate the Suez light which is hardly ever used. They also try to bring on 5-10 other people to sell goods but that is just a cover to steal the brass firefighting nozzles.

They probably lost steering on the bridge at the helm and couldn’t compensate from engineering. Usually when you lose steering, you give course corrections port or starboard directly to the engine room and they adjust.

Can you explain how this happens other than a woman driver?

Ultra Large Container Vessel EVER GIVEN ran aground in Suez Canal north of Suez, at around 0600 UTC Mar 23, shortly after entering Canal in northbound convoy. As of 1440 UTC Mar 23, the giant ship was still aground with tugs attempting to refloat her. Traffic reportedly, is blocked in both directions. EVER GIVEN is en route from Yantian China to Rotterdam.

I had my household goods delivered in a crate about half the size of one of those suckers while overseas. It is amazing what they fit in there.

I had one of my cushions to a sectional and dice from a game missing; because the Jamaican workers played dice while underway and forgot to put it back.

No, tons of Filipino dudes work as deckhands on those types of vessels. No clue why so many choose that line of work, but they love it.

History lesson: When Spain colonized the Phillipines, they started a trade route from Manila to the west coast of Mexico, overland to the Gulf of Mexico, then across the Atlantic to Spain. Filipinos have had a seafaring tradition ever since. Fun fact: There were Filipino settlements in coastal Louisiana early on. Some people who claim Cajun ancestry are actually of Filipino descent.

I've been through the Suez Canal fourteen times.

Hotshot captain was trying to do a burnout and got a little squirrelly. That's usually what happens, anyway.

Similar to the post above, they could have lost steering.
One other possibility could be bank suction. When transiting a narrow waterway the bow creates pressure while there is a lack of pressure on the stern, this can cause the ship to get a little squirrely and then the crew overreacts.
Another possibility is just basic human error.

Have you met a Filipino chick? Great sex, crazy AF.
Work on a ship, don't deal with crazy as much and get "welcome home" sex every few months.
