Also seems you would never rat out the "doctor"

No matter what side of an argument you are on, you always come off as the biggest douche.

I bookmarked the article for another day. Looks like quite a read.

Never underestimate a parent who wants justice or revenge for their kid. Not too many things can stop that.

No doubt he would be.

There's a reason marijuana isn't legal and it sure as shite is not illegal because it's a "gateway drug"

My argument to that..

A gateway drug is a drug that has the potential to kill you. But chances are when you do take it, it doesn't. These are pills, even alcohol and cigarettes which are all also everywhere, and accessible. You will see that it doesn't kill you and as time goes on, you chance the leash more and more. Until it does.

Marijuana can't kill you, so there is no real "risk".

Really great article, and a really tragic story. I am extremely strict in my prescribing or narcotics. It's amazing how little shame patients have nowadays in asking for them.

I've taken opioids only a couple of times. I found nothing pleasurable at all about the experience. I understand chronic pain patients becoming addicted to these, but I can't for the life of me understand people taking them recreationally.

Many pharmacists reported that piece of shite to the DEA, NOPD narcotics and the medical board starting in 2010 when we started seeing his bullshite scripts. I hadn't heard of the doctor from the OP as she was before my time but it's a carbon copy of her practice and he had 3 offices.

Took 6 years from the first reports to finally shut him down. A patient of his threatened the lives of my technicians and myself because I refused to fill his scripts. He walked to his car while I was on the phone with the dispatcher and my technician saw him get a gun out of his trunk and head back into the pharmacy. I cleared and secured the pharmacy and he was tackled by an undercover narcotic unit who was tailing him from a drug deal in Hollygrove right before coming to the pharmacy. He's in Angola for life now.

When he was allowed to write scripts again but no controls, we started seeing scripts from him writing for pints of promethazine plain syrup with 12 refills. Instantaneous "we can't fill this, have a good day"

He has been in trouble more than once. I remember how angry I was when that pregnant lady turned in those totally inappropriate rxs. I made copies and called the DEA, saying what kind of doctor does this to an unborn baby!?

I don't understand why the board of medical examiners has given him another second chance.

Thanks for sharing this story as I can relate on many levels. I've been sober since December 1987 after checking myself into treatment for drugs and alcohol. Buried a half dozen friends in the last 20 yrs who OD'd from various narcotics including heroin. It could have easily been me who OD'd based on the stupid shiit I did as a teenager. I share my testimony with as many people who will listen since lots of people need help, but are afraid to open up and ask.

In my current profession, I deal with Pain Management doctors weekly. I've seen the Gov't implement new rules changes to include patients undergoing monthly Urine Drug Screens and prescriptions for 30 days only. I was scheduled to meet with Dr. Kevin Gorin in Lake Charles back in 2005 when his office was raided by DEA and FBI agents, essentially shutting down his practice.

I'm glad Mr. Schneider was persistent and never gave up. Sadly, I think the addiction problems and drug epidemic of today, is worse than is was 10-15 yrs ago.

A few pain clinics have been shut down here in mobile and baldwin county in the last couple of years. The doctors and some staff are in prison. The money they were making from patients but mostly kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies was astounding. One of the guys had over 3 million in exotic cars that are about to be auctioned. Im sure some of their patients have real pain bit they turned them all into addicts. First of the month the lines were around the building.

I've read through it twice, and it's still an eye opener. It's not something that's touched me or my friends and family (we're old), but it is affecting some neighbors in terrible ways.

There was a big bust several yrs ago by the Feds on the NorthShore.
Pain Mgmnt doctors were buying thoroughbred horses with cash obtained from drug sales.
Then they would place the horse in a claiming race to launder the money.

NOPD was providing security for this despicable place and probably getting kick backs. They weren't in a hurry to shut the place down.

Hmmmm...

I'd be very interested to know which trainers they used. Louisiana horse racing is so full of crazy bs like this but this is the first I've heard of that particular scheme...

I think this is hands down the best thing I've ever read on this site. There are so few times in this world when justice is truly realized but this story is one of the exceptions. Gracias for posting and God bless Mr. Schneider, mans got some brass balls to do what he did.

I don't understand why it took so long to shut her down. If a pharmacist or a nurse is caught on camera stealing narcotics, they are suspended immediately.

The DEA was watching this doctor for over a year and did nothing. Why? They had enough for a case against her for a long time. They were receiving reports and were watching the clinic on camera. They have major responsibility for the opiod addiction situation in St. Bernard.

Yeah I would've been fearing for my life if I were him. And that witness that told him who killed his son..she was brave too. Sad that these people have to worry for their safety just for doing the right thing.
