We talked to our contacts within the St. George incorporation movement in Baton Rouge, and heard some interesting information. Our sources say that signatures are absolutely pouring in. So fast, in fact, that they’re closing in on the halfway mark to the 13,000 or so they need in order to trigger an election on the incorporation of the prospective new city in Baton Rouge.

This time, the organizers have taken a different approach to promoting the St. George petition and they’re going straight to likely signers through the mail, digital advertising, phone calls and door to door, and it seems like it’s working. Perhaps that wasn’t possible in the first attempt, as it was necessary then to build awareness of the campaign through the media. But now, everybody in Baton Rouge knows there’s a St. George petition afoot – so it’s less necessary to put out press releases and hold town halls which can afford opponents opportunities to protest and name-call. Instead, this time it’s a much more direct and personal approach, and you’re hearing a lot less fuss. And from what we gather, it’s definitely working. At the rate they’re going, they might well be done by the end of summer.

The SWB Effect.

Kip Holden was just enough to hold people over.

She has sunk the ship.

This would doom Baton Rouge and eventually St George would fall into disrepair too.

It will become like Jackson, MS with a major university in the middle. Will be absolutely devastating for Baton Rouge.

But I understand why people are doing it. They're fed up with carrying a certain side of the city on their backs with their tax dollars. They're tired of shitty public schools.

Really wish we could get a common sense mayor that could unite.

Everything dooms Baton Rouge. Hell, it is already doomed.

Scruffy votes that they light the apocalyptic fire sooner rather than later.

I moved here in 89 - the school system sucked then, I’m sure it sucked before that, and it sucks just as bad now. It’s time for a change, and the establishment of SG is the first step.

It's going to be like Jackson anyway, no need to take the entire parish down with it. Hopefully something like St. George will be there to step up and take the lead.

I agree with this part unless we can get rid of this unified government nonsense and let everyone in the parish vote for parish president.

Wouldn't change anything. You need more productive people and fewer unproductive people.

LSU is Baton Rouge's most valuable asset. St. George would rapidly destroy the areas around LSU.

Maybe they can just gate the whole thing in like USC.

Could have had two more if they hadn't removed my house from the updated boundary. Bunch of shitdicks.

Don't blame the St. George effort. The numbers in your area were too low, blame your neighbors. You can always request annexation after incorporation.

The non-white people in my neighborhood voted for St. George. They too are tired of a crappy public school system that only has one highschool for the entire area.
