The richest person in America (and the world) is Washington resident and Amazon (AMZN) CEO and Founder Jeff Bezos, whose net worth is a whopping $115 billion as of September 13.

Facebook (FB) CEO and Founder Mark Zuckerberg takes the top spot for the state of California. As of Sept. 13, his net worth was $72.8 billion.

Charles Koch, CEO of Koch Industries, is the richest man in the state of Kansas. His net worth is $59.6 billion. The Koch family is the second-richest family in the world, trailing only the Walton family.

Only 10 of the names on the list are that of women. These included American heiress and investor Jacqueline Mars (Virginia), Walmart heir Alice Walton (Texas), Fidelity Investments CEO Abigail Johnson (Massachusetts), and New Orleans Saints/New Orleans Pelicans owner Gayle Benson (Louisiana).

Not all, but a lot of those people are self made. It takes real hard work to obtain that kind of wealth and hold on to it. Good for them. Many of them are also big time philanthropists too, but you can never please everyone.

If you’re talking about Pat Taylor’s wife, I don’t think she’s as rich now.

A lot of those philanthropies take on a life of their own that their founders never would have approved of.

Carnegie, Mellon, and others were 19th century robber barons and tycoons who would puke if they saw what happened in their names today.

Chouest is worth around 5b.
Gayle is 3-4b.
Sam Davison is a little over 1b.

Pretty sure the rest are under 1b.
