In reality, I doubt you need to do much more, as long as you are still losing weight.

People generally lose weight a bit slower to keep from losing lean muscle mass. It doesn't sound like a big deal but once you get to your goal, you will either be a little pudgy or "skinny fat".

quote:

Prolonged moderate calorie restriction and 5–10% weight loss, on the other hand, increased the rate of muscle protein synthesis (78, 79). The loss of muscle mass during prolonged moderate calorie restriction is therefore mediated by increased muscle proteolysis rather than suppressed muscle protein synthesis.

Preserving Healthy Muscle during Weight Loss

Up the protein, aim closer to 5 lbs / month. That's about a 600 calorie deficit. Protein will keep you full, help you get stronger. Lower deficit will keep your body from metabolizing muscle. High available protein during a lower deficit could actually help you grow muscle.

Sadly, it all comes down to diet. Cut out all the BS and especially sugar and you'll continue to cut weight and gain muscle.

I don't know how old you are, but you have to increase your protein intake as you age. Also, you may want to consider TRT if you're over 45, that actually works better than any of the weight loss drugs and you'll get way more gains from your workouts.

Stopped drinking

After that, the Big 3 of weight and tone

Swimming
Dancing
Sex

Give up the gym, take up gardening.

On the food front

No more processed food or chain food. Check these 3

Sodium (salt)
Sugar (especially added sugar that is not natural)
Fried foods
White foods (go brown) like rice, sugar, bread, and such

Congrats on quitting the alcohol; I have quit at least 4 times this year alone...

Adding compound lifts a couple times a week would help with those beer belly remnants. Build the engine up and it will burn more.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy

As you get near 50 numbers drop pretty significantly and the ability to burn fat and gain muscle goes with it.

I had an unhealthy drinking habit. No hard liquor, just beer. I gave it up completely on Oct 2022 and expected to have a noticeable drop in weight. It never came even with plenty of running and mountain climbing. About a year on I was even putting on more weight than I ever had when I was drinking. You can find semaglutide online for CHEAP. I dropped 40 lbs over 5-6 months, enough to allow me to start running more without fear of damaging my knees more than I already had when I was over weight. It also gave me a great starting point to start lifting weights and building muscle, where I could actually see results without having to wait nearly as long for it to peak through the fat. I’m in the best shape of my life now, who knew weight lifting could actually be enjoyable when you aren’t trapped in a perpetual hangover?

I recommend Boron. It's cheap and available at most vitamin stores. I took 9 mg/day for one month and went from 226 to 219 with minimal exercise. It helps release free T and gives you an energy boost.

I just cut carbs and lost 19 pounds in 6 weeks. My blood pressure dropped 20 to 30 points also.
