Maybe you misunderstood me. I’m responding to the posters who claim deaths are being mislabeled.
What isn’t happening is someone presenting with a heart attack or stroke being labeled a COVID death. But I’m open to seeing your evidence for that.
What is happening, that you mistakenly think is wrong, is that people are getting severe viral pneumonia which is causing organ damage (could be heart, kidneys, etc.) they then might have a heart attack or kidney failure in the hospital with severe pneumonia. That death is caused by COVID. That’s a COVID death.

The sole purpose of the shutdown was to avoid overloading hospitals who didn't have enough ventilators, PPE, meds, CV-tests, etc...with an ill-informed public who wasn't practicing safe-distancing or masking their coughs & sneezes.
It wasn't primarily to prevent death. That was a side-benefit. Deaths will still happen. Thousands left to go. But hospitals & the public are better prepared with a plan in place to handle and slow the next wave.
Open up the frickin' country.

Agree and upvoted.
However, you'll see the goalposts move and milestones required for "opening up" shift and change.
This is the problem with this type of open ended government action with no plan in place to move forward.

This, unfortunately, is everywhere. It's got to run it's course. As to being potentially reoccurring, is what needs to be sussed out.

These two posts sum it up better than I ever could. The stated goals of the shutdowns have been achieved and then some. We should be opening back up this week. Yes there will be additional cases and deaths. It is what it is and there is nothing we can do about it. Continuing to hide in our homes will change nothing.

For office staff, it's as simple as alternating work days amongst them. MWF then TTH......
Hand washing protocols preached constantly
Set up hand sanitizer stations
everyone wears a mask of some discription
Sniffles? Stay the frick home and work
No mass gatherings yet (i.e. movies, concerts, sporting events, etc.)
Table spacing in restaurants

Team “Flu”: has a bad sense for how to interpret data and models, but has a good sense of risk management and understanding of the law of unintended consequences
Team “Karen”: is using valid data/models, but is flat out lying to themselves by putting the value of a life at infinity dollars per person and virtue signaling that it’s worth destroying the economy to save a life.
From where we stand on April 19th, “Team Flu” is in good position to grab the upper hand - but drop the fricking flu analogy.

I guess I don't fully disagree with what you are saying, but preventing hospitals from being overwhelmed saves a LOT of lives. You don't get to Italy death rates unless your medical systems are nuked.
Thankfully that has not happened in the US, though I think NYC was getting close for a minute.

There have been a lot of smart folks participating in this thread. I think I've learned something from them.
