The pressure on Sweden and the few Republican governors is enormous

Every world leader, from Trump to Merkel, is worried about the perception that they overreacted. As the death toll estimates plummet, even from those that factored in social isolation, they are wholesaling the notion that social isolation is the reason. To make that case they can’t have successful exceptions.
The world is leaning heavily on poor Sweden, which has stuck to their guns like friggin champions. Trump’s new Chief of Staff is personally calling governors of North Dakota, Oklahoma, Utah, etc. to get them to toe the line and cover for them.
Meanwhile the data in Sweden is looking fairly good. They are ramping up, and will certainly have a more intense experience then they otherwise would have, but it doesn’t look bad. And they’re keeping a much bigger piece of their economy going.
In hindsight (admittedly) we should have practiced social distancing in a few cities, but elsewhere we should have let citizens use their good sense.

That's the problem. Way too many have no sense.

Penrod, you and I agree on a lot of things in terms of policies and politics.
This isn’t nam, there are rules

Wholeheartedly agree.
But not just social distancing, in those main urban hubs that the virus has rapidly spread through and thereafter exported from, we should have locked them down entirely from leaving their parish/county.
While allowing the majority of America to social distance but stay open for work.

The media is constantly complaining that Trump didn't do enough. They are mad he's not acting like a dictator.

I don't trust Coronavirus data anywhere. It seems like everyone is fudging their numbers one way or another to push their own narrative

Considerations during a Pandemic:
1. How dense is the population
2. How dense is the population

tOT: We can't compare ourselves to Italy or Spain they have a totally different culture and way of life compared to Americans
also tOT: We should look to Sweden and model our response to theirs.

Sweden has exactly one city larger than Baton Rouge and has a per capita death rate higher than the US

Sweden is probably (without looking it up) a much healthier country than the USA.
I love that they are giving us a case study, but it's not quite apples to apples.

Swedish cases and deaths are spiking over the last couple of days and their death rate is higher than other countries, so what was your point?

There were a shitload of rules in Nam.

Almost like government intervention doesn't have a big of an impact that authoritarians think it does.

Citizens of this country elected Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters, AOC, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Hank Johnson, Eric Swalwell, Bernie Sanders and countless other seriously fricking stupid people into the United States Congress in recent years. That’s a lot for them to use their senses.

And so we must counteract this by taking away their freedom.
"We know better than the common people and therefore we will tell them what to do, even if that means temporarily suspending constitutional liberties."
