What a legacy for Mitch and a metaphor for all our elected leaders. A billion dollar project and the toilets don't flush. I am NOT an engineer but I could guess that if you foolishly decide to build on the side of the airport with the worst soil in the neighborhood you do not just bury your pipes in the soil under the slap. You build a vault (A concrete box) to run them through or something better than a cheap attachment to a slab I suspect is shifting or sinking enough to break the pipes so that you are not dealing with this for the life if the airport. I do not think you can build this after the fact which means broken toilets are going to be a regular thing at a new airport.

Then no one cares about your opinion on engineering.

i was told they fixed this issue with the old site with some type of styrofoam?
But, they shot down that idea for the new place because it was too expensive.

To be fair, no really cares about engineers' opinions either. Some weird dudes.

How many have you been on where they have to cut over a hundred holes in the slab just before the projected open? And where they won't or can't even identify the issue.
I would add that after initially allowing media access to the site there has been a ban since August of last year. This story was filmed at the old airport.

You seem like you have the answers. You should go offer your services.

Yep you can employ the best engineers the best contractors and the best supervision and the whole project gets put on hold because of something stupid like Bolt Sizing.

It's amazing how NOLA can be such a third world city

We had a long thread yesterday about this. All of the OT experts chimed in and the problem is fixed.

they should learn to embrace the pipe problem, just like we did for TS

How many times will this crap get posted? This shite has to stop.
Seriously though, there is no road that goes to the airport, so no one gives a piss at the moment.

soil settlement in that area has been well known since time began. in the 60's there was a spat of houses blowing up due to gas pipe breakage. and New Orleans is only 10 feet below sea level.
poor engineering, design, construction is not a feature of very large project but rather a management failure
