The same thing that happened during the bust in the 80s.
People will go back to DFW and Houston...the area will become stagnant again.
And in 5-10 years if the drilling picks up again...people will come back...Olive Garden off the Loop won’t be able to keep anyone hired cause they make more as a hand in the oil field.
Never ending cycle.

That place will be down to about 150 rigs. Last year they had about 450.

in the 80s new Pete grads assigned to the area stayed in state park till they found housing...
have friends in the area buy a house watch the value double then decline to less than original price....
had a few make bank and get moved to the denver office also...:)
oil industry;( great paycheck and retired but lots of bumps!!!)
good luck to yall....been there.

Texas Monthly just had a 10 episode podcast about the history of the area, and the various booms and busts. The narrator grew up in the area and worked on a rig in college. It’s pretty good.

This is the death blow for shale oil. Just poor management, lies to investors, and criminal executives. Back to majors and small hardy independent mom and pops with no debt. Doubt the Permian rises again this time except for what exxon and chevron will hold for the future but shale oil is a non starter below $55-$60 a barrel.
