The old Race Trac across from the Mall of La

Why hasn't this been redone into a new gas station? Or anything else? It's crazy how long that place has stayed vacant.
Also, when will King Buffet next door wash their roof, center the sign on the roof, and when will they just close?

Drives me fricking crazy
That gas station is a massive pain in the arse to get to if you aren’t going with the traffic or have to cross oncoming lanes

I drive by there daily and always wonder why it didn't get redone into one of the nicer Race Tracs. Seems like a good location for one.

Seems like a property McDonalds, Starbucks, or some other fast food joint would scoop up.
Kind of a weird property I guess. No direct access to Picardy.

That may be why it's taking a while for it to be redeveloped.

I agree with everyone in that it's definitely a pain in the arse to get to if you're not going with traffic. You'd think they could make a dogleg road to connect it to Picardy.

If they connected their parking lot to the King Buffet which connects to Ralph & Kacoo's, you could get to the light in from of R&K's. Otherwise, it's going to be a pain unless you are headed south on Bluebonnet.

At that point I’m just going a mile down the road to the other gas station

Just passed it today and thought that this thing has sat vacant since gas was $3.00!

It would be the only gas station on bluebonnet between I-10 and Perkins, so you’d think they would re vamp it

It's a Raceway, not a RaceTrac. Same company (sister, really), but they aren't building any new Raceways anymore. That particular one was franchised to someone, so RaceTrac Petroleum has no control over it. From what I recall, they'd considered making a play on it, but couldn't make the site work, given their preferential site layout. No idea why the current owner shut it down and has been letting it sit for over a year. Source: I used to do a ton of design work for RT.

So why is it closed and abandoned?

On a different note and not to hijack my own thread but did we ever find out what they are building at Floynell/Jefferson and on the land across Jefferson from Jefferson UMC?

Office park I think

Like I said, I don’t recall. Might have been an environmental issue.
