how was this pursuit not called off
It really highlights how cops need better technology and procedures for ending any pursuit like this. Obviously, the guy didn't care how much danger he was putting people into - you can't reason with crazy. Guy had to be crazy, how in the world is leading them on a chase like that going to end better than just turning himself in (though, he almost got away by hijacking the other truck, so...).
Looks so dangerous to have a cop stand in the road and throw out a spike strip - and he couldn't get it out far enough anyhow. If that guy rammed the cop car, the cop probably would have been killed standing behind it. They needed to concentrate on getting cops to head him off instead of chasing him, then use stuff to stop him. Shoot out tires, paint-ball the windshield, or use a drone for that or for dropping spikes or chain-mail or something.
The female could have been a hostage, so they can't just shoot it up unless they are in a position to avoid the passenger.

That was some Mad Max level stuff!

As soon as he had the truck with the trailer I assumed he was fricked. But the giant tank full of water was an anti-pit defense.
Surprised they didn’t call this off. The cops were trying to put him on two lane roads with oncoming traffic.

I am proud our arkansas troopers do what they do. They may take it took far but they end it...they don't just sit there and watch the perp do whatever they please.
This video posted earlier shows how worthless california police are. They just let the guy run rampant doing whatever he wanted to. Numerous chances to easily end it...but they do nothing. Vehicle disabled...the just let him run away to hijack another one or break into a house.

That was amazing. What was that fire bomb looking thing at 20:27, right after he loses the trailer?

That was totally insane, in more ways than one.

One of the cops said a chain saw caught fire.

The perp is an expert driver.

Should’ve at least picked up an obstruction charge for the false name she gave

Seems like we aren't far off from not needing police chases anymore with drone technology. Send one or two up and just follow them until they stop. While fun for cops I'm sure, they are expensive and put lives at risk.
If you remove the injuries and deaths from high speed pursuits and stopping on the side of the road, stupid shite no one in their right mind would do routinely, being a cop is about the 50th most dangerous job in the US. It really ought to be stopped if for no other reason that it is damned dangerous for the cop, not to mention the public.

"Get out of the vehicle!"
"I can't feel my legs!"
"That don't matter, get your arse over here!"

How exactly is that supposed to work when everyone knows the police aren’t allowed to even try stopping them if they don’t pull over?

99% of the people stop.
This guy's crimes werent worthy of the ridiculous dangerous driving I saw.
The risk to the driving public didn't warrant the hazards or the destruction of public and private property.
Adrenaline is a helluvs drug...

Yes because there's no current press release that says "The police are no longer able to give chase if you don't stop"

They had no idea who was behind the wheel or why he was fleeing. An expired or switched plate is a minor, non-moving violation, hardly worth a chase. If he ran, the logical assumption is he had something bigger to hide.
I agree with you on most points, but its a tough subject

Man if you watch the other video where they let the guy do whatever he wanted and just followed with a chopper that isn't a good method either. He ran into a house, had a fight with a whole family and stole their car without a cop anywhere in sight.
Most of the arkansas chases end really quick. This was a weird one with the perp catching a lot of lucky breaks. That truck with the trailer they couldn't pit due to the weight of the water tank was nuts.
Only thing I don't agree with that the ASP do is pitting people at crazy high speeds.

I don't disagree; if he runs it's likely not b/c of expired plates. That said, assuming no kidnapping or murders very recently, why not call it off once it got that hazardous?
I mean, this guy was going wrong- way on the interstate.
And a lot of other cities/agencies would have called it off due to public endangerment and there's really no huge outbreak of fleeing criminals.
Just very lucky no one was killed, including the officers.
Agree with you on the chopper deal, that doesn't guarantee a slow down...

Stupidest shite I've seen lately... Tremendous danger to the public, piss-poor driving by those cops..
This was my main thought watching the clip. So many times the cop tries a PIT maneuve, in congested areas, and the baw swerves into oncoming traffic narrowly missing head on collisions. Unless the baw just murdered someone I don’t see how you can justify that kind of pursuit through busy roads.
