Mainly because NOPD ruled the area with an iron fist. Yes, sometimes they roughed people up and all but I think I would trade going back to that for a relatively safe environment.

The question is how much she will prioritize getting shite done vs pursuing an ideological agenda that does not address the foundational issues.

This does concern me as well. No matter what she says, I do believe she is a bit of a true believer when it comes to far left politics.

If its her vs some shitbag like Oliver Thomas I will vote for her.

If whomever is being mentioned in this thread as a mystery business candidate I will go that way

Too bad the citizens of NOLA can't help themselves and will vote in another progressive to finish destroying the city.

Back in the game (after a weird hiatus) and one from this group is considering running for mayor. Local boy made good, Jesuit, strong in the black community. Democrat but very tight with Landry and the Republican delegation . Would be a home run.

Gairrusso? He is nowhere near black enough.

This times a thousand. New Orleans, by a wide margin, was actually a more dangerous city in 1984 than 2024. The difference was, the Quarter and tourist areas around it were pretty damn safe. I am 57 and when I was old enough to drive, right or wrong, it was instilled in me do NOT venture outside of the Quarter.

The graph only goes thru 2016, but violent crime is down across the board since then.

She may be a true believer but she knows nothing gets done if the basic services of the city cannot function properly. I can handle whatever "bit of true belief" she has if the city functions some what normally.

Her track record on the council with JP and GIarusso for the most part has shown she just wants things to work.
