where would you say you get most of your energy and stuff from? beans/lentils? keep in mind, I'm a distance runner, I average ~15+ miles/week running. I'm already hungry all the time
I get it. I’m into Olympic lifting, CrossFit, and hiking/mountaineering. Six days a week twice a day at the gym.
I do Ezekiel cinnamon raisin muffins, peanut butter, and fruit for snacks.
Seven to eight cups of power greens daily and I’ll do red lintel pasta for lunch on days I know I’m running or doing cardio. A banana thirty mins before my workout, too.

I also love a baked potato with great northern beans, green onions, and hot salsa. Sumbitch it’s delicious.

hno offense but I'm not really interested in getting in some long debate with you about western medicine or whatever
I'm not a doctor or whatever, I'm like 99% of americans who just hear news about food being bad and think, "oh damn I hope that doesn't give me cancer, maybe I oughta cut back"

You can’t trust info from a dietitian,The Academy Of Nutririon and Dietics controls dietary education and licensing of dietitians in. U.S.and receives a great deal of it’s funding from food industry-Kellogg’s,Coca-Cola and others.
Studies concerning nutrition are amongst the worst quality, people are citing and believing in bullshite and don't even know it.

My wife and I tried it for a week. I put a stop to it after she made us a "Keto Cheeseburger Calzone" The damn crust had butter and cream cheese and all kinds of fat in it. But hey baby it was KETO.
I think the issue with keto is we still really don’t know the long term health affects from it

I hear you. And the best thing to do is what many in here have been recommending. Whole foods. Stay away from processed foods as much as possible. Watch the processed seed oils in particular, which are often "hidden" in foods that may otherwise seem healthy. My push is that things like meat and eggs have been demonized unfairly.

yeah I do my best to eat right, I'd say I'm successful 80-90% of the time
it's REALLY hard to break out of my current rut of
sunday afternoon through friday - good eatin', no or little booze, lots of sleep, run like a madman every morning
then
friday at 6 pm: feel great from week of progress, feel that I deserve a cheesburger the size of my head eh I guess 14 beers wouldn't hurt
saturday hangover so pencil me in for mimosas and chicken n' waffles
repeat

Well it doesn’t matter what diet you’re on if you are consuming more calories that you are burning you will gain weight.
Keto adapts your body to burn fat as fuel. When you burn off all the dietary fat you’ve eaten your body starts metabolizing body fat without skipping a beat.
It allows you to eat a very low calorie diet without the lethargic feeling and cravings typically associated with a standard low calorie diet.
The main reason it works is because it forces you to give up sugar cold turkey and when you do consume sugar you feel like crap. Fat also tends to be more satiating which causes people to just naturally eat less.
At the end of the day keto works because it helps you eat less and cuts out empty calories from sugary snacks/drinks. Just makes it easier to eat at a caloric deficit
And a caloric deficit = weight loss

yeah reducing carbs (without going extreme keto either in trying to get ketosis or eating a pound of butter and bacon a day) is just good advice for the vast majority of people. the reason why is satiation. you will eat fewer calories overall if you satiate yourself properly while eating. carbs are utterly terrible in terms of calories used to satiate yourself (and many carby snacks have 0 satiation and insane calories)
Lately I've started tracking calories and "budgeting" myself a certain calorie limit daily. I'm not on a "diet" as I still pretty much eat what I want, as long as it fits in my "budget". I've found that in doing this I no longer eat until I'm "full". I eat a portion that makes sense for the amount of calories that I'm allotting myself, and I'm fine afterwards. There are times when I get hungry, but I don't have to eat just because I'm hungry. I've lost 11 pounds in 3 weeks (including "cheating" on weekends when I drink) and I didn't have a ton to lose to begin with (goal is 23 pounds total).

Lost 78 pounds and have kept it off for two and a half years eating low carb but not enough for ketosis. I cut out the stupid fat loading. I cheat occasionally and then go back hardcore keto to get back to my happy weight. I work out about the same as before I started the diet - which was essentially not at all.
BP and cholesterol continues to be perfectly normal for age and CONSIDERABLY lower than before started. I'm 49 and not on cholesterol or BP meds (but close to needing meds for the former before). My GP was originally skeptical, so we did a full blood panel before and every six months since then. He still cannot explain the success.
I cannot say it works for everyone, but it works for me and a few co-workers.

What do you guys consider low carb? Just curious.

I recently started using noom and documenting all meals. I am realizing how bad I used to eat and how much.
