Those rubes who've never left the Midwest except as tourists are no less ignorant than the poor folk who don't aspire to ever leave the trailer park. Ignorant, loud-mouthed, possibly mentally ill, human beings exist in every culture. They seem to be reproducing at the fastest rate.

Tried section 8 twice on 2 rentals. Horrible experience. KC Housing Authority was totally inept in handling both.
That was early on. Learned valuable lesson.

Iowa is full of low income criminals from Chicago that dipped after Obama bankrupt Illinois. They put up posters for low income housing and boarded the train over to Des Moines, Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City. Last time I visited family there, one liquor store had a bordered up door from being robbed a couple days before. That day there was a posse of about 30 drunks from Chicago outside another harassing everybody that passed by at 1pm on a weekday for more money to buy booze. Heard one passerby say they don't have money to give them because they are on welfare and the drunk hoodrat replied "me too",but that she already spent hers for the month on booze... it wasn't even 10 days into the month.
Seeing as Iowa City is full of Illinois/Chicago transients, pretty sure most of them are not racist. Plenty of em are probably bias against the hoodrat crime culture that has been forced on their community though.

I’m originally from upstate NY. It was almost completely white and I don’t remember race ever being brought up. Not once. Moved to the South mid ways through middle school and it was eye opening. Went to a majority white school that just started busing in black kids from an adjacent community.
It was a terrible time, I watched the black kids destroy the school and the whites really didn’t like them.
I guess my point is it wasn’t until I moved to the south that race was even something I thought of. I also think the north doesn’t bring it up because they don’t have to deal with it. They don’t know any better.
