The Highland Road corridor north of campus should be firebombed.

It was bad when I was in school in the 80's, but now it looks like Detroit. Other than the little new development around State Street, it is embarrassing to have that kind of garbage serving as the gateway to our beloved university.

With all the money in Baton Rouge, with all the money that follows LSU around, HOW is it that this still exists? Surely there are developers who could offer these poor schleps a few bucks for their ramshackle shanties.... more money then they've ever seen in their lives. The whole area could be transformed almost overnight. I just don't get it. Plow it under.

Why make it nice? Most blocks around it are shite, no point in dumping private money into it and I sure dont want public money wasted on it

If you have been paying attention they are renovating/developing about a block north and a block south each year.

Water Campus, new student housing, etc is slowly making old south BR a better place.

1. Image. The first thing that some people see getting off the Interstate to go down Highland is an area that looks like Detroit.
2. Safety. The only thing separating the north side of LSU's campus from the "low-income" apartment complexes is one street, a fence, and a gate that people easily slip through. Band kids can't keep their stuff under the nice shady trees by the fence anymore because of a rash of phone thefts, for one thing.

I thought this was one of the reasons the band hall was built?

True. Most people would keep their cases outside though, and some would keep their phones in their cases. Yeah, they should keep stuff inside, but my point remains.

Gunshots have been heard from the band field before too...

I blame Nixon since he signed the bill that enacted section 8.
