You or your doctor doesn’t know the cost of anything. And I’m serious about that. I’m a physician. I know the cost of about 10% of the things I do or prescribe. That’s NOT capitalism.
I am self insured but out of marketplace at the moment. We have major medical and sups, but cash pay for anything else. Also get Doctor video chat for everyday stuff that is free and unlimited.
My current biggest savings is going to county clinic for vaccines. Thankfully we live in a nice area, so its not a shitty clinic. But they are $10 an injection where I was paying $300-800 for kids vaccines

Thank the closest progressive and Obama. Those frickers screwed up healthcare so bad in the hopes it would fail and force socialized medicine on the country.

Did you sign up for a HMO?

Obama. The ACA was meant to fail to usher in single payer government run healthcare.

quote:its the same as the other thread on the $45k helicopter flight. Health providers long ago signed up for the “network” (body shops did the same thing). To be in the network you have to offer (give) discounts to the insurance company. Well, you didn’t go to 8 years of medical school to work for nothing so you mark up that $1.00 Motrin to $1.50. You then give the insurance a discount of $.25 and keep $.25 for yourself. After all, you’re in business to make money. That’s how it starts. Pretty soon you’re charging $2.50 for that $1.00 Motrin because the insurance company is asking for steeper discounts from you if “you want to stay in network”.
insurance
Joe blow has to pay for insurance because of “rising costs” of health care.
Now your patient decides to shop elsewhere for his medical needs because your costs are to high. After searching, he finds they’re all the same price in the area because of the “prevailing rate” in that area. The prevailing rate is set by insurance (same as a body shop).
Now if I own, say, a railroad business and I decide to get with a few other railroad tycoons and set prices for our services, that would be illegal because of the Sherman Antitrust Laws. Maybe, as a doctor, you want to talk to other care providers in your area. Maybe y’all can come to concensus on prices so you all make good money and the insurance company can go piss up a tree. Nah, that’s also a violation of the Antitrust Laws and you would find yourself in federal prison.
You know who Antitrust Laws don’t apply to? Insurance companies.
Why don’t these laws apply?

Capitalist piggies.
1. Shop more.
2. Ask your congressional delegation to expand Medicare.
A seismic shift is necessary.
3. Either go to M.D. In.plan or change plan.

I don't know enough to know how that would be possible, but there has to be away both parties can put together something that is actually helpful to all, but as long as lobbyist and special interest groups have as much power as they do, it will likely never happen.
Does this include the illegal aliens coming into the country daily?

Republicans control all of government and have for almost two years. They have managed to make healthcare more expensive and more restrictive at every turn. And they have no viable plan despite 8 years of repeal and replace talk.
They own it 100%. And all they have managed is to make it worse and more expensive since they started undermining what wasnt great to begin with.

A whole lot of conspiracy theorists in this thread.
It certainly isn't the only problem, but a surefire way to reduce our healthcare costs is to reduce the cost of delivering healthcare.
Tort reform would be a great place to start. Insurance premiums for physicians are out of control. My colleague is married to an OBGYN and she has to maintain her insurance even after she retires until the last baby she delivered turns 18.
This also leads to defensive care, where physicians are acting as much in your best interest as they are in covering their own asses.
Fraud is another area where costs (especially medicare/medicaid) can spiral. Vigilant enforcement with serious penalties will help to combat this.
The American healthcare system was fricked up way before Obama came into the picture. It was rather fricked up when the Clinton's tried to do something.
If the Republicans do not make an honest and rational attempt to fix underlying problems, then they may very well end up with a single payer system. Repeal and replace is all fine and well until you find out that replacement is just as terrible as its predecessor.

Seriously have you looked into Christian Healthcare Ministries? Takes care of your insurance mandate and is highly affordable. Im a single dude that never goes to the doc though so it may not be ideal for your situation

Republicans didn't create the current law.
I just can't wrap my head around the idea that some people were in favor of the government forcing people to purchase a product.

The Republican plan was actually much worse than Obamacare. Laughably worse. And extremely unpopular. I wanted it to pass though. I wanted people to pay even more under the Republican plan and suffer and lose coverage for preexisting conditions.
I'm kinda happy trump has managed to undermine Obamacare and make insurance worse and more expensive. Elections have consequences. Doesnt matter to me, my employer covers almost 100% of mine. My coverage costs $150/month and my employer contributes that amount to HSA.

They made they current law worse.
You do realize insurance premiums were rising EVEN faster before Obamacare and Medicare and Medicaid were getting close to insolvency? Doing nothing was NEVER an option even before Obamacare.
I am highly amused trump keeps undercutting it and driving premiums even higher. Like when he got rid of the individual mandate, that pulled billions out and increased premiums. I want trump supporters to suffer for what they foisted on the majority of the country who didnt vote for him.
I just wish trumpcare would have passed which was much worse.

This is rich coming from the guy who has no clue Obamacare is still mostly in place. I'm shocked you can type out complete sentences.

Is this like how the economy magically started doing better right after Obama left office?
