I thought those leave the clothes smelly and break down in like a year.
Since Sir Winston is single the Samsung is probably fine.
We had a Samsung and it broke down less than 4 years. The Maytag lasted less than three years.
But A LOT of cloths gets washed in my house. My wife is constantly washing cloths.

I'll never own another front loading washing machine again
It’s amazing that they were able to convince people they’re a good idea.

I’d plan for not having the washer for about 3 days. YouTube the disassembly of your old one, find the issue, grab a few parts from the 8n town store, get r done. They are simple to open up and replace stuff.
Your issue may be the drum bearings needing to be replaced. I had that issue once on a 20+ yr old Kenmore. If bearing seized it could have fried the motor. At least you will know the issue once apart.

I have a harvest gold may tag from the 70s that is waiting for my wife's whirlpool to die.
The whirlpool uses such little water that it barely gets clothes clean. It's only here to prove a point to my wife.
I just loaned out a 1988 Porta cool air conditioner. Still blows ice cold. I have a shed full of vintage appliances all of which are working. Of course my wife hates it.

Do not ever buy front load. They will never clean clothes and leave a mildewy smell. After dealing with a leaky seal in a Samsung FL after 3 years ownership we bought GE Profile top loader. Been semi happy with it so far but next time buying SQ, or maybe Maytag commercial.

Facebook marketplace is overflowing with older, less tech-y machines repaired or refurbished for $200 or less. That was my route.

YT videos of vintage washing machines make me wonder why we've regressed. They not only clean clothes but some are down right works of art

I just took it apart myself and cleaned out the pump which had an article in it. I'm trying to reassemble now. Made a mess with water but I'm cleaning that up as I go. That's why I wish I had a shop to do this in
Now I just have to put this thing back together

Just be aware that some of the "new" replacement parts are not as well made.
To add. Get genuine Maytag/ GEn whatever parts. Don’t get knockoff Chinese ones off Amazon. Spend a couple extra bucks.

I've been there. Just buy a new one.

quote:I certainly hope this is not the case, but I wouldn't be surprised. I was going to say speed queen and be done with it, but if they're making bad products now too then just bend over and take it from any of the manufacturers if the repair is too much.
I even read a few Reddit threads where the OT's favorite, Speed Queen, is shitty now.

As I said. I can do YT University, but there are some externalities and minutiae that tend to come up that worry me about tackling projects, especially inside the house

I have a Maytag top of line dishwasher. Best cleaning, most quiet d/w I've ever owned. It has the system that basically has a food disposal built in so any food debris gets finely ground and flushed. Never does anything unclean comes out of it. Never any streaks, residue or spots, ever. Wine glasses come out crystal clear. Also, only use those tri-colored liquid gel packs from Cascade.
