Wait what?

My place is in Pleasant Ridge.. the condos on Perkins along Dawson Creek. Next to Campus Federal kinda. My condo is the very last building right up at the creek.

I am not there, but I let the cats outside when I thought it was done. I wonder if I can get there now to put them back inside..

What if your area on the map isn't in a blue section? I'm pretty sure I'm only understanding like 80% of it

How does one determine which gauge to watch?

You'll want to watch the tributary nearest to your home that feeds into the Amite/Comite rivers

This is exactly in the area I just pointed out for backwater flooding! Jones Creek area take heed, it is rising fast!

Does this mean the Amite has likely crested around Denham?

Wards Creek has risen 6 inches in last 30 minutes and is rising fast per a text from a friend of mine who lives in Santa Maria. Now 6 inches over the break

While the amite is a huge factor the reading closer to you will be more accurate.

Accurate isn't the right word I don't think. It's storm event and watershed based. But honestly at this point it's probably beyond my expertise to discuss whether or not a FEMA map should be based on a more local watershed or more regional. Plus I spoke too soon and had to clarify that statement.

In theory, no blue, no problem.

But this may be larger than what the blue shows.

Check your address and its elevation against the predicted levels of the nearest reading. If you are above the crest by a couple feet you should be good

Goddamnit I don't know that area and my brother is being completely unhelpful and that's where he is.

Will not give me an address for fricking anything. Near "Tommy's Fish House" and Airline if that means anything. I know absolutely zero about that area.

The back of Pleasant Ridge is in the flood zone. Just going off the maps.....you may want to take your cats and some belongings somewhere else.

Maybe someone else can weigh in. This has actually been worse than predicted so I'd be overly cautious since you are so close to Dawson Creek. The back flow hasn't started there yet but it will happen soon.

I am not there. But I am going to try to get there and put them inside. I have to drive there from Highland/Lee. My place is two story, so we'd have to experience an apocalypse for them to not be safe indoors.

It is a matter of finding them though.

We're closer to Jones Creek than you. Clay Cut is the worry there but I don't think the water can get there. You drive up to get into Shenandoah.

Do you have a prediction for Jefferson hwy between Highland and Antioch?

That area looks pretty high, some spots over 30'. Should be ok. Again, this is barring additional heavy rain.
