I seem to recall the demise of Facebook threads 4, 5, 6 years ago here. Yet it's still growing.

Did you forget the OP's timeline here? He said 2040/2050. We're talking about 23-33 years from now. How many things were ingrained in our social fabric in 1984 that have totally disappeared now? The stock being at an all time high has little impact on what will be happening three decades from now.

Facebook already began the slow death spiral when they allowed anyone to sign up for it and not just college kids with a .edu email address. I abandoned it when my mom and grandparents added me as friends. It will go the way of MySpace at some point, when something better and less watered down comes along.

signed up for facebook in 2005. deactivated it for 7 years, reactivated it last month so I could promote myself and my businesses. it also gives me incentive to be more adventurous with my life so I can show off

don't regret reactivating it all and don't see me ever deactivating again

You can't be serious. That's like saying Walmart began the slow death spiral the moment Sam Walton decided to open a second store.

I've never created a personal one, however I know it seems like 80% of people I know are addicted to it. Twitter is on its way down, so eventually something will come up and take Facebook's place.

Worldwide, there are over 1.79 billion monthly active Facebook users (Facebook MAUs) which is a 16 percent increase year over year. (Source: Facebook as of 11/02/16) What this means for you: In case you had any lingering doubts, statistically, Facebook is too big to ignore.
4.5 billion likes generated daily as of May 2013 which is a 67 percent increase from August 2012 (Source: Facebook)
1.18 billion people log onto Facebook daily active users (Facebook DAU) for September 2016, which represents a 17% increase year over year (Source: Facebook as 11/02/16) The Implication: A huge and vastly growing number of Facebook users are active and consistent in their visits to the site, making them a promising audience for your marketing efforts.

This site has a bunch of FB stats.

While it might not have been for you, it doesn't mean it began the slow death spiral. In fact, just the opposite happened..

This might be the dumbest thing I have read on here all week...... Well, maybe not all week, but.. its up there.

I have quite a few FB friends (and my sis) who have died and I love that we can still visit and post on their pages. We can share photos, memories and laughs. So i love the option to memorialize a page.

As an introvert, I like FB because I can see what everyone is up to without having to leave my house. Luckily my family and friends are normal funny people. I love seeing their pics and comments.

There is a minimum of any drama or BS on my page, so I love FB.

My Space was better. It was complicated for the old folks to personalize, which ironically was it's downfall. They migrated to FB because it looked like a very basic programme.

Sorry for your loss.

Its just not for me. I deleted my account in 09ish.. And I am glad I did. There was just something about some of the petty stuff people would do. People who I know at one point... Still might run into from time to time, but have no interest in being FB friends with them, but evidently there are people who take it serious if someone doesn't friend them or decline their invite. I know they have added different features now where I guess I can hide people, but I just don't have an interest to create a new one

Deleted my page a few days ago. Politics and the attention seeking really didn't sit too well with me.

Thank you for your condolences. Her death was such a shock. It was such a comfort to be able to grieve with her friends and my family by sharing on her page. It is a lovely tribute to her. They shared so many great pics of her.

I get it that FB isn't for everyone. I've learned to "unfollow" people or delete them. With my family being all over the US, I appreciate being able to keep in touch with them. I hate talking on the phone and I hate going places for social occasions so FB is my form of communication. My family and friends keep me laughing.

I hope FB doesn't fail.

How long was My Space around?

Official lifespan, I dunno. I'd have to google. But it was popular around 2005-2007 maybe.

Also sorry for your loss. Plus, we must be on different Facebooks. My friends are FULL of drama and political crap!

To the other posters, I didn't say demise. What I am saying is, will we be surrounded by memorial pages / death announcements.

If Zuckerberg plays his cards right, he might be able to tie it in to Ancestry.com. All our relative will be there. Easy to make a family tree.
