re: The DKE closure at LSU is going to stay ugly for a while.

Looks like those guys are the real men, and the “social elite” frats are just a bunch of douchebag pussies.
Never see this shite coming from the branded guys.

I'm not a shite on frats guy, but are we really gonna act like this is exclusive to frat brothers?
I didn't say that it was. And I made a point to say that it wasn't for all frats. But in my personal experience, the people that I was close with in high school and college through athletics, band, work... they might be Facebook friends at best.

It's that the older actives should know better than to allow and enforce half of the shite that goes on during the hazing process.
This is the weird thing to me is that the dke’s that got arrested were in their 4th or 5th year. The worst hazers in my experience where the sophomores that got it bad the year before.

Maybe we should see where all of this goes before we assume the allegations are true.

If somebody was beating my kid I’d be happy. Let somebody else handle it for a change

Some of those older guys arrested were officers who didn't report it. The ones doing the acts were younger, based on the police reports. That doesn't let the officers off the hook, because failure to report is covered under the Max Gruver Act, and if this shite was as widespread as it seems, there's no way the officers could have been ignorant of it.
BTW, based on the story today, I'm wondering if those kids were encouraged by the alums to stonewall, and if so, whether the alumni have any culpability. If I'm the parent of one of those kids arrested for secondary violations, that's one of the things I'm thinking about.

Because I never went that route. Frats are comical.

Test of manhood, right of passage, possibly carterization of a gunshot wound?

Sounds to me like the system worked. A fraternity broke the rules and the chapter and the individuals involved are being punished for it.
To extrapolate this to the Greek system as a whole is ridiculous and prejudicial. Probably 99 percent of the people involved in the Greek system cause no problems at all. That's a greater percentage than the student body, or the population at large.
I was in a fraternity at LSU and was never hazed at all, beyond some minor joking type stuff. We did have to clean up after parties and some other things that I don't consider hazing, that would probably meet the definition today.
Joining a fraternity was a great experience for me, and I am close friends with many of them to this day. I highly recommend the Greek system.
