I think he meant more of what frats have become today. Someone previously mentioned the change in reasoning behind hazing and I think that's very true. It's supposed to be about commitment and growing trust with your fellow pledges. It's not a way for power hungry, sadistic douchebags to get their rocks off.

Normally I tend to disagree with the anti-hazing policies and pussification of Greek Life at LSU, but if that is true; WTF? Throwing gasoline on pledges is not hazing it. It is dangerous, irresponsible, and just fricking stupid. Why can't DKE just stick to f**king goats?

Yes. Frats are trashy as frick. Fraternities are not. All these west cost and Midwest frats with their sleeveless frat jersies and gelled hair are fricking douche nozzles. Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of douche nozzles In the traditional fraternities too, but the stereotype of frat boys I always see is west coast and Midwest frat stars

same here, don't think I could have made it without my Topsiders

ETA: when you think about it, that is a form of hazing, and the key to survival for that is the same as any form of hazing, realizing it's 90% or more mental from the get go

Right. That’s why I said In 2019. Maybe at some point in the past they were a net positive, but you can’t say that they’re worth the damage they’ve done in the last 5 years.

when I was at LSU, during their hell week the pledges had to(dressed in suits and ties,) crawl everywhere on campus with a brick in each hand all the while chanting "Omeeeeega, come and get your boys!"

Sounds like the grandfather is being a little bitch.

In my opinion, looks like the grandfather may have saved his grandson’s life. Don’t get me wrong, I realize fraternity hazing and initiations have been around forever. Nothing wrong with it to a point. But, what that boy and his pledge class was having done to them was over to top. The fact that the kid was putting up with it shows he is probably a little insecure and would do anything to fit in. If he would have “gone active”, he would have probably upped the ante on the next group of pledges. In that case, he needed someone to step in before he became the next Ben Wynn or Max Gruver.

They are 18 year old pledges, of course they are insecure.

Funny, 18 year olds are considered developed enough to vote and live on their own, but now they are just insecure children. Maybe we shouldn’t coddle the frick out them and they will grow up to be men and not pussies.

Note: Nothing said above condones beating individuals, dousing people in flammable liquids, or forced copulation with farm animals.

And the cadre has been through a weedout process too, to eliminate the sadists and power freaks.

Ambulance-chasing attorney from SOUTHERN LAW with an extremely douchey face, in e-mail, indeed proves he is a douche of the highest order.

How does a 40-something year old man write an e-mail like that?

You know who I found to be the most sadistic and power hungry in terms of hazing? It wasn’t the high school athletes, wasn’t the “cool kids” from high school. It was the weird ones, the meek ones, the ones no one thought would be bad. Those people we deranged

The problem with hazing is the hazers tend to do everything done to them plus a little extra. So it starts innocent enough, but years later ends in serious Injury or even death.

saw some of that, probably because that's the only opportunity in their lives to that point to be in a position of having the upper hand
