Ordinarily, you cannot impeach someone on a statement unrelated to a fact at issue in the case.
Say you are in a car accident and testify that the light was green. The other side can’t put on evidence that you lied to your wife about an affair. It’s not at issue in the case.

She promised to pay her 7 million dollar divorce settlement to charity. She received her entire settlement and didn’t pay a dime of it to charity. Not a dime. But she does have these apparently:
I guess she thinks the jury and the entire general public are as dumb as Lloyd Christmas.
She not only lies to everyone around her, she also lies to charitable organizations.

The attorney is also trying to insinuate that she lied to the world and a charity to boost her career. It’s believable she would do the same about the abuse. It establishes how far she will go to try and boost her career.
It accomplishes a lot.

But unless she referred to it on direct or its part of her counterclaim, it should not come in under the rules of evidence. It’s collateral impeachment.

Not much. If the defense objected and was overruled, it will be a point on appeal. If the defense did not object, then the objection is waived.

The Daily Mail says she could face a perjury probe in the UK. She apparently told the court there that she had already made the donation. We know now that was untrue.

I don’t know what you do. But imagine watching someone do your job not-so-well on national television. You’d probably say some things.
Trials are stressful, and you are always going to blow some calls. There have been a large number of blown calls here.
Heard’s team gets more of a pass. I think they’ve got an uncontrollable client.
