I work in government and have my years put in for pension, so I can retire whenever I’m ready.

Retire now and go into private sector. You may be reinvigorated.

I don’t understand this. You have your pension, leave, collect your pension, find something in the private sector you enjoy and make a salary on top of your pension. Why do you car about their satisfaction?

It’s just stupid pride. I’m probably going to give it a week or two and see how it looks to play out and make a decision then. I have my retirement paperwork filled out and ready to file. Just gotta figure out what I want to do if I leave.

I read this thread and it sounds like your Director has you figured out. You are RIP (retired in place). It happens a lot at govt jobs.

Never thought I’d ever consider doing it again, but here we are. She checks every box - financially independent, level headed, attractive, sharp sense of humor, enjoys traveling, enjoys sports, enjoys music, puts up with me, etc. I’ve been single for over 10 years, have no kids, and the thought of retirement years by myself sounds depressing. She came along at just the right time.

What’s the problem? You already have your pension and said you were only planning on working a little bit longer. Sounds like they just made your workload much lighter.

Just quiet quit for another year. That’s what I’m doing. Hell, I’m playing Witcher 3 now instead of going into work. I’m 62 and chilling until retirement.

Thinking marriage close to retirement? You’re an idiot! I lost half my stuff at 36yo to divorce and took a couple of decades to rebuild.

No real problem other than my wanting to pay my house off before retiring. I was on track to do that early next summer. I also wanted to take more time to figure out my post-retirement landing spot. It’s not the end of the world.

Well, and I don’t like my new boss….at all. Hard to work for someone you don’t respect professionally or personally. He’s vastly under qualified for this position, but he kisses the right asses.

This is how most senior supervisor positions are filled in the State.

When profits are not an incentive, boat rockers are too risky so they stick with the "this is how we have always done it" yes men crowd.

If you’re nearing retirement make them push you out.

At any age past 55 or so the next job is damn hard to get if you have a respectable resume. That is, unless you have a sure fire “in”.

If I were in your position I’d put last them just for spite.

Before 10am? I love how efficient and fiscally responsible our Government is!

No worries! they will get raises next year when they raise your property taxes. No worries though they will tell you house is now worth more. A blank check they can use every year and they do it every year.

This is the main reason I'd rather have any other form of taxation than property taxes

Been in my house little over 10 years and every year they bend me over with this letter in the mail your proposed taxes for next year. They always show like 3 options that could happen on the proposed new taxes for next year knowing dam well they will be using the one that says my taxes are going up again.

The kicker is since i have moved into my neighborhood they have built two new big subdivisions like a block away with these homes going for 450k or more. So now these people are getting taxed as well so you would think that would help me but no they still go up. So when i see all these people with these government jobs talking about not working and not doing much i think of this. If they cut half the Gov jobs here in jax dont think they would be missed if were being honest.

You can always enjoy retirement with her. But tying yourself to her financially is a mistake.
