You can thank us for your Cush guberment job. Enjoy retirement on the taxpayer’s back

No. The director and my new boss are more conservative than me and my old boss. The director is just tired of listening to people complain about some changes we made, changes he wanted, and he’s too cowardly to defend us. Just typical government agency BS where arrogance, ignorance, and ego collide to make terrible decisions.

have my years put in for pension, so I can retire whenever I’m ready. I was planning on sticking around at least until next summer when my house will be paid off.
If there is a chance that your pension could be increased by staying the extra year, I'd probably coast through until you hit that benchmark. Otherwise, I would not leave unless it was really worth "the lost increase" or it was another position that would help my pension.
The advice is coming from a guy that is jealous of you having a pension opportunity.

I also have some dirt on my new boss. I could potentially bury him, but I’ll probably take the high road. He’s pretty well connected politically so it could bite me in the arse.
If the dirt impacts this person's ability to properly provide oversite of the taxpayer's money you are duty bound to expose it. Not doing so to protect your own interests is exactly why people mistrust government and how government gets away with the crap they get away with. Your agency has some form of employee concerns program and you can do the right thing anonymously if you're concerned (rightly so most likely) about retaliation.

No, he’s too stupid to steal a bunch of money without getting caught. It’s just some unsavory things in his personal life.
If those unsavory things are such that they could be compromised AND they are in a position of public trust...most likely are if they are in management with a government agency...ethically you have no choice but to expose it if you know it is true or have reasonable suspicion. Their connections are not part of the equation...all an individual can do is the right thing and let the chips fall where they may. Most likely nothing will ever come of it but it won't because you were protecting your own arse, it will be because the system is fatally flawed.

I know some of it is true because I witnessed it, but it’d be my word against his. It’d mostly be personally embarrassing for him. He’s deacon at his church and likes to project an image of a good, Christian man, faithful to his wife and family. On a work trip, I witnessed him and a woman that wasn’t his wife leave a hotel bar together hand-in-hand and go up to his room. Another colleague witnessed similar on a separate trip, but that colleague has since passed away.

Before 10am? I love how efficient and fiscally responsible our Government is!

Sounds like you get to end your career with a “senior year.” Sounds pretty sweet to me. Congrats!

I was exaggerating a bit, but pretty close. My new boss wants to meet with me on the project I was working on that he’s going to take over. We were 90% done with it, and he’s the type that will take full credit for it if he gets it across the finish line. My suspicion is he’s going to sabotage it and they’ll scrap it and blame me and my old boss.

Anyway, just thinking out loud here because I’ve already knocked out what I had to do today. So I guess I’m gonna sit here in my office and pretend to work all day while drawing a decent taxpayer funded salary.
