This is really sad. Say what you want about Bill. But that was a terrific show.

Just awful that Bill Cosby outlived him.

Saw him on Sneaky Pete when it was on Amazon. First season with Walter White was exceptional, kinda tapered off after that. Sneaky Pete just hit Netflix for those that haven't seen it. RIP you dyslexic son of a sex pervert.
I just finished it on Netflix Saturday. Good shyt!

When I went to the US Coast Guard boot camp 15 years ago, we had 7 people that failed the swim test out of a company of 80
Not knowing how to swim and choosing to go into the Coast Guard, I assume voluntarily, is just about one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of.

All whole town taught kids had to float swim as babies and swimming lessons seemed required black or white, but it was Ocean Springs.
A rip tide has really nothing to do with swimming ability, it has to do with remaining calm and going with the current until you get out. I kind got caught in one in Mexico while snorkeling and heard a prop and popped my head up to realize my dumb arse had not been swimming parallel to shore but swam about 2 or 3 miles or more offshore into a damn shipping channel.
I had been following a big school of fish for about 30-40 minutes and wasn’t paying attention.
As I swam about mile or so in and looked up and realized I was only half way in still mile or so away panic began to set in. What if get a cramp, get exhausted, what if I big wave hits me, the current changes or I breathe in a bunch of salt water, no one will see me etc etc etc.
Then I caught myself, and said this is how people die by panicking. I don’t have a cramp, I am not tired, I can snorkel all day and into the night no problem, I am in good shape etc. I just calmed myself down slowed my breathing and had a nice relaxing swim in. I didn’t even let the school of barracuda I swam through bother me. I stayed calm, and checked them out like I was another king predator too and they let me swim right through the middle of them, no problem.
Fear is the mind killer, and the complete killer in a rip tide. It’s hard not to panic when you are getting ripped off the beach at 15-20 mph. You have to go with the tide at an angle and eventually you will get out, it may carry you a mile or more but you will get out. People jumping in to save a child etc are always in a panic and typically they die in the rip currents along Alabama. It’s tragic. (If you are going to jump in to help someone always bring some type of float or something with you, otherwise when u get to them they will just drown u too.)
Btw I think they are going to be bad this weekend.

You don’t really understand right away that you’re in a rip current. You’re doing your thing, but can’t seem to get closer to shore. You try harder, but still barely make any headway. Before you know it, you’re toast. The key is realizing what’s going on early enough to take counter-measures. Getting out of RC isn’t difficult, but again, most don’t realize they’re in it until they’ve worn themselves out. Pro tip…you ain’t out-muscling the current…I don’t care who you are.

I know there are black people out there that are great swimmers, but I've never understood why so many suck at swimming and why black people drown so frequently?
Self fulfilling prophecy. If you believe it you keep your kids away from the water, which means....they never learn to swim.

I agree. I never understood why someone would do that to themselves.
I was very surprised but not surprised at the same time.

there seemed to be very little about that show that was black
Which was what made it successful. Cosby wanted to show us honkies that black families could be well off professionals and have a functional family. Fast forward to today and…
