Quincy Delight Jones Jr (yes that’s his real name).. His second best work IMO, after Sanford and Son, was this:

Word to the wise, Greatest Night in pop about the making of WATW, now streaming on Netflix, is an awesome documentary if anyone hasn’t seen it .

Just the other day I played this song to a 30 yo. Not only did she not know this, she had never heard of Sanford & Son. Made me sad.

Want to be amazed at the impact one human being can have on society in a single lifetime?

Check out Quincy Jones's discography, simply as a producer, composer, conductor, and arranger:

What's the difference in "composer" and music "writer"?

Way above my paygrade, but i think that a composer is a writer of music, as opposed to lyrics (?) Anyway, when i saw the headline and decided to start a thread, ‘composer’ was the first word that came to my mind .

Reporter: is there any music out there that you think kids shouldn’t be listening to?

Frank Zappa with immediate response: we are the world

He also owned a few TV stations in the late 1980’s and 90’s. Quincy Jones owned WNOL before it was sold to Tribune and now current owners Nexstar.

I am old and this was a long time ago.. but i can remember when i was a kid and the Fox Network debuted in the mid 1980s as the fourth major network after ABC CBS and NBC.. it was a big deal.. the only shows they had at first were It’s Garry Shandling’s Show and the Joan Rivers talk show .. and maybe Tracey Ullman(?).. oh and somehting called Duets.. what i cant remeber was, in New Orleans, was Fox on WNOL or on another station ?

ETA Fox was definitely not on WVUE or Ch 8 or whatever it’s on now .

He was amazing. Most younger people probably don't know his name but everyone in the 70s and 80s knew the name Quincy Jones.

He was also married to Peggy Lipton of Mod Squad fame. This was in 1974. I loved watching that show, mostly because of her.

Right, but was Ch 38 WNOL then, or did it have a different call sign ? Also I believe Ch 38 only started right around the same time Fox Network debuted, until then the only UHF channel in New Orleans was WGNO, Ch 26 .
