The cool thing is that we are getting a lot of targeted leads. Meaning we aren't getting restaurant cooks wanting to work in a home contracting business.

line cooks can be good workers. for $25/hr id take what i could get

You have shite recruiters if they have not explained the candidate landscape and expectations to you.

If they have, and you’re anything like you are here in real life, then it’s you that is the issue.

I’m almost 7 years in and I change jobs after about two busy seasons, the last couple have been shorter.

Some managers are turned off by it, others view it as the guy has experience and brings a fresh idea.

It works for me because I have deep relationships, two massive places on my resume and I crush interviews. I doubled my starting salary in just short of 5 years, plus not counting the bonuses and such.

It also has helped the market forces these conditions where talent is at a premium.

Young people jump from job to job without a thought. With that said, companies have no loyalty anymore, so why not. Double edged sword.

My company has cut back on pay and benefits, no raises, no COLA for several years. If I were younger I would have moved on.

I was very upfront and telling the candidate that we were not interested in getting someone trained up within our systems to just leave in a year or two.

Curious what the pay range is for this position.

Yes but 10 others will… and you also might end up

I truly feel bad for todays management as expectations from employees on everything within their job is basically unrealistic. Dont dare ask them to do anything difficult as they will say “ it was not in the job description” when you hired me. Work late on a project…yeah I’m not doing that. What is unfortunate is for this to correct itself there needs to be massive unemployment on every level within the country. When I came out of high school you might have 20 people interviewing for one job opening at McDonalds. Your were damn happy to have a job. But with todays “government safety nets” there is no fear of losing a job. Sit at home and collect cash from your government. If your job is so horrible start your own business. Do it your way. Soon though you will now be the one trying to hire these disinterested employees. Geez I’m glad I’m at the end of a career. Yeah I know get off my work lawn old man….

Decades of taking advantage of employees, holding their jobs as hostage, and not offering bonuses or advancement for hours upon hours of extra work created this system for many systems of management.

I’ll never understand shitty PTO policies. It is just such a high priority for me that I couldn’t imagine working a job where it didn’t kick in for a year.

Weird. People that have been at jobs long term aren’t jumping to a job with modest pay and giving up their benefits for the year to do so?

You’re only getting people that bounce without benefits?

Strange.

My regular bar and restaurant has turned over every, single server or waiter except for ONE dude in the 10 months I've been regularly going.

This has always been the case, you have to be pretty stupid to think high turnover at a restaurant only started during Covid.

Or the other option is you could be a creepy weirdo. If the restaurant didn’t have high turnover before you started going there, and then had high turnover in the 10 months since you started going there, maybe you’re the problem.

Yep. Even the most basic positions usually have you banking 2-1/2 or so hours of PTO every 40 hour week from day 1.

I don’t have recruiters/ it’s a simple post on multiple platforms. It’s not like this is a multi billion dollar company.

If a guy says he has experience for working at a job for 2-3 months, that’s not experience in that field.. that’s not shite.

If a guy has had 8 jobs in the past 2 years, we could make him a millionaire and he would still find a way to not want to work longer than a few months. Why waste time with a job hopper?
