Have you tried renting your books through Amazon?

Also, if you had to buy your books you always have the option of selling them back. It's riskier than renting, but still gets some of your money back.

Bigwords.com

Seriously, you'll thank me later. They compare every single book buying or renting site on the market.

Yeah but you have a lot of material left to read on the toilet so you'll save money on that end. It all evens out.

Just wait until you go to sell them back. Over half of them will be "old" editions and you will be told they are worth a fraction of the original price.

My physics textbook costs $280, not including the required $80 web homework access code
are you sure the code wasn't included? Most of the time when I had a book cost that much it at least came with the access code.

You'll use a lot of the textbooks for successive classes. The main difference between new and old editions are some numbers in the problems and correcting spelling mistakes. As far as I know, physics and calculus haven't changed much in the past 10 years

I cannot believe how big of a scam college textbooks are... it's insane.

It's not a scam. Most academic publishers barely break even.

If you do not need an online portal for homework, Abebooks.com

Same exact book, but the international version. It will come in a poorly wrapped brown paper package from Pakistan...it's scary to open, but worth it to get the same exact book in black and white for $5 vs $180.

I know from a friend.

I've always wondered if the professor or department gets kickbacks for using the latest textbook. I had a few level headed professors who understood how expensive text books were and required us to use earlier issue books we could find online for only a few bucks.

It is a scam and that is a load. Every controversial product out there seems to have the same excuse.

"Well, we barely break even."

College textbooks are a massive racket. The fact that they release the exact same book almost yearly and call it a "new edition" is one bit of proof to the matter.
