How old are you willing to go? How many miles can you live with on a used one? What Make/Models are you looking at?
Trying to stay 2019+ and sub 50,000 miles. I prefer Toyota and Lexus but I am open to others. Just not anything by Ford.

Your wife was willing to lose out on 5k due to a color?

Used market had dipped around the end of the year, early Jan. Plenty of used 2-3 yr old SUVS on the market for $45k and below. Expeditions, Suburbans, Armadas, and some lower end QX80s. Those are the models I was looking at.

If people will hold off buying a car or house for 6 months to a year, the cost will go down because the powers that be are not gonna let the economy crash due to no sales.
Unless it is absolutely necessary, don’t buy.
People control the market but can’t understand to stop buying frivolously

Finding a full size SUV used or new for under $55k is pretty damn difficult
I want to eventually get something full size for the wife and kids (I drive a car, she drives a small SUV). Casually pulled up the local Toyota dealer's website to check Sequoias. One for $86k and one for $87K, promptly closed the website

I"m a Chevy guy, but the Expedition is a fine SUV.
2019 for sub 55K, no problem. Sub 50K miles will be an issue.
I'm in Lafayette and there are a bit of Armadas and QX80s to choose from with your parameters. Tahoe and Suburban will be damn near impossible. As will Toyota and Lexus. Sequoia's will have more miles, but you can get them under $55K. Lexus...lol.

I’m hearing that repossessions of new cars is at an all time high because people can’t make the payments. Eventually, the car lots will have to sell some of these vehicles at a loss just to get rid of them.
That’s what I’m hoping at least.

People that can afford new, especially anything slightly upscale, should be ordered direct from the manufacturer. This has been the case for years to avoid dealer price inflation. You wait a couple of weeks, or months (depending on what model you're ordering and from which manufacturer), but you get exactly what you want at MSRP.
You say you want bigger than a 4Runner, but the problem is that puts you directly into a soccer mom sized Sequoia. They make the most profit on luxury models, which is why they produce more of those and fewer of the SR5 trimline. There are six Toyota certified used Sequoias within 250 miles of Houston. There are 73 Certified Nissan Armadas in the within the same distance.
Stop looking on car lots in your immediate area.

I stopped to look at a 2023 Lariat F250 in Ponchatoula and it’s $99,000. Has a leveling kit and 37’s on it.
The sticker on truck is 86k then around 3k for tires and leveling kit plus an extra 10k for market adjustment

Which company does this?

They keep extending loans allowing the high prices to stay around. Not sure if it’s a long term solution or just temporary.
Someone told me they’ve even gone to 40 year loans on homes to prevent a needed correction.
I pay cash for everything so holding on right now waiting on the correction that is inevitable. Been eyeing a used, low mileage 3/4 ton diesel. They’ve been running $60kish which is ridiculous, but they disappear pretty quick so some idiot is paying it.

This board is obsessed with wanting to think they got a good deal (understandable) and thinking they can time a crash. I just don’t see a crash happening.

Remember how you used to buy vinyl or CDs or whatever and now you have Spotify or Apple Music? Same thing is going to happen with cars. You’re going to pay $350 per month for the Honda Silver plan and you’re going to basically be subscribed to the right to an on-demand ride in a self-driving car wherever you need to go. 5-10 years it’s happening. I don’t like it either.

One guys buddy was in the repo market and said their lots were full of repos and that was proof. LOL
I think it’s a little early to call BS on that news. It wouldn’t surprise me to see a bunch of Americans upside down on the used cars they bought during the pandemic. If we see unemployment numbers increase, those repo numbers may be correct. Now, I also expect car dealerships to keep prices elevated as long as they can get away with it. Definitely not sustainable right now.

It's not getting better for another 10-12 years. We are stuck with this inflation until then for a variety of reasons. Glad I've got an old paid-for shitbox to drive.

The car market is normalizing and will start a downward cycle soon. Dealers are still trying to go with MSRP plus market adjustment or MSRP plus profit add-ons, because they feel the average buyer is an idiot (they are not wrong
).
Here are the current year over year sales
The two that should jump out are Toyota and Stellantis (Jeep/Ram/Dodge/Chrysler). Toyota is still having an inventory shortage for whatever reason. Toyota has no issue selling, they just cannot make them. Stellantis is the opposite, nobody is buying them. They have the highest days supply right now.
The used car market has basically crashed, which means it has just returned to pre-covid levels. It has not crashed from there.
The best thing you can do, expand your search zone. No offense to the fine people of the State of Louisiana, but it is a shite hole of a state. Go to Texas to find a car. With the exception of Toyota (as mentioned above), car lots are pretty dang full in Texas. MSRP+ days are over, plenty of dealers will go below MSRP. Especially Stellantis
Here are you top 2019
top 2020
Most of those have been through a redesign in 2021+ and you are not finding them under $55K. Inflation is too high.
