Horribly stupid, selfish and reckless.

To say "well nothing happened" is just dumb.

If they had killed someone you all would be saying that it was stupid and reckless.

Look at the thread earlier where everyone was talking about all the plant guys racing trains in their redneck chariots to get home and crack open a budweiser.

Is it stupid and reckless only if they don't beat the train?

Our traffic laws - and the formulas used to derive many of them - were largely developed in the 70s. Back then cars weighed a lot more, had shitty brakes, tires with less engineering than LEGOs, limited seatbelts, no airbags, no antilock brakes, no crumple zones ... the automotive safety advancements in the last half century are far too numerous to list here, yet we’re still using comparatively archaic traffic laws.

It really is.

As a transportation professional, it’s terrifying how completely ignorant these people are when it comes to physics. Granted, some understand it and laugh it off.....physics is universal and quite unkind to stupidity.

When someone’s family member/friend/etc. is killed over this nonsense, then hopefully their perspective changes.

Want to race? Go pay the fee and hit the track and have fun.

But apparently you've never actually driven in Germany.

You keep harping on Germany. I've driven the Autobahn but it's irrelevant to this discussion. US roads are NOT the Autobahn.

That was a hard habit to break when I moved back to the states. I would routinely trigger my governor on the interstate not realizing I was going 120+. Luckily I never got caught.

This is such BS. The vast majority of drivers in Europe travel 120-130 kph or 74-81 mph. Very very few drive over 140 kph or 86 mph. There is a small minority that go fast but it’s rarely much faster then that. It’s incredibly dangerous to drive over that unless the road is almost empty, you have very little reaction time and come up on slower moving vehicles very quickly.

Also, sure the speed may not be limited but your distance between vehicles is limited and again at that high of speed it’s hard to consistently maintain a legal distance.

These losers need significant prison time in gen pop. It was a fun movie (I mean who can forget Jackie Chan) but IRL it's irresponsible af.

If they really did this and didn't just prepare two identical cars and drive NYC to LGA and LAX to Redondo, they deserve 10 years minimum.

High horse? laughable. I just see it for what it is : stupid.

Just because it didn't happen, doesn't make it safe.

And what do you think will happen now? Someone will attempt to break their record, thus the cycle continues. Faster and faster until someone dies.

But yeah, "hur hur, 'merica, they went fast fast..."

There’s been a shite ton of cannon ball attempts and none have resulted in a death

I think we’re far closer to solving nuclear fusion than convincing Karens to use the correct lane.
