I think they're classy in the right setting with a nice suit.
What has killed the reputation of the bow tie IMO are the guys wearing them with jeans and a sports coat going out to the local bars on a Fri night. Yes, that's trying too hard IMO.
But whatever, to each their own, I don't expect everyone to like what I wear.

ya exactly. these dudes that wear them with anything other than a suit are clowns.
slacks and a button up= nope
