Definitely, I felt more at home on the baseball field than at my own house.

Travel ball gets lots of crap here but it was some of the best times we doesn’t as a family.

Born in 83, summer life consisted of playing baseball or wiffle ball all day, go to baseball practice and then go home and watch baseball tonight or play RBI baseball or World Series baseball.

Different era (mid 90s) but I agree !!!

Those summer tournaments with CCR playing “put me in coach” and several bbq pits cooking hamburgers and hotdogs - really brings back great memories.
My son is only 1.5 but I hope he wants to play baseball !

Now that the cancer has won and I'm heading toward the end, all I think about is my childhood. 70's kid here too. The things we saw and did.


Imagine riding your bicycle all over Baton Rouge. I mean all over. The pack of kids in my area would get on our bikes in the morning and go all over town. Plus unsupervised football, baseball, basketball, dodgeball, yardball, really any ball game we'd be doing it.

I've had a great run after that trust me but at the end I'm thinking of that simple innocent time that I forgot so long ago...

Same here. Peak summers for me were early to mid-80s to early 90s. Seemed like there were a 100 kids in the neighborhood. Me and my two brothers would get up early, make some cinnamon toast, play baseball until late morning. Come in, watch some MTV or maybe some of the Cubs game and then it was basketball until late afternoon. We’d hop on our bikes after that, hit the Circle K for a cold drink and then play football until the street lights came on and the crickets were so loud they’d hurt your ears.

Some of those games were massive, sometimes it was just my brothers and another neighborhood kid or two. It didn’t matter — it was always awesome. Those summers were incredible. Rain or shine, we played sports and ran the roads on our bikes.

Nights at the park were awesome. We would play our game and afterwards our dads would lean on the fences down the baselines and shoot the shite during the following games. My teammates and I would go to a field not in use and play cup ball with in the dark. Only light was from the adjacent field where there was a game being played. And we would all chase foul balls so we could turn it in at the concession stand for a free coke in one of those wax paper cups. The same cups we crunched up for cup ball.
