I’ve never had a car payment. Always settled for what I could actually afford. I couldn’t imagine being that greedy and paying anything more than legally required minimum liability insurance.
Hope you can afford a couple hundred thousand or more in property damage or medical bills for anyone you might injure or property you might damage in an accident

Bring it on. Accident free for 30 years.

That’s fine. It only takes one. You want to risk losing everything you own in an accident, that’s on you but seems foolish.

No. My recent note was $933. This was for a Toyota. If you combine modern prices and interest rates greater than 5% then you get these high payments.
I paid it off after 10 months because I didn’t like the interest rate.
Now the real discussion is should more people be driving Honda accords as opposed to expensive crossovers and SUVs. I’m not opposed to the argument for buying a new car if you’re gonna drive it a long time.
Do both parents need a big car?

Giving money to a church in 2025 is like lighting money on fire. It’s stupid.

Cars are just expensive now. Getting ready to retire my GX to be a full time ranch car and dealing with a lot of sticker shock trying to replace it.

Every new 1/2 ton pickup truck is north of $50k, most are closer to $60k and top of the line are $80k
3/4 tons are from 65k to 110k

We purposefully bought under what we could afford to give us room incase COL continued to go up. Both of our cars are paid off at this point. We got our mortgage down by moving to another homeowner insurance provider and shopping around.
You're likely much richer than the people that have all the fancy stuff in that case

That isn’t true.
New tundra under 40k.

Price Leblanc has 17 tundras on the lot. 1 is like this one at 42k, the rest are mid 50s and up.
So I guess not EVERY truck is 50+, just the overwhelming majority of what's available is.

I got a 3 year used car. $341 a month. I’m single but I do ok for myself and even then, $341 is way too expensive for me. Add on to that $200 a month in insurance. Crazy. For a corolla

Man, I've got 3 vehicles and 100/300 coverage on a 17 yr old in Louisiana. My truck is 8 yrs old and paid off, but what we pay as a family to drive is disgusting.

Wife's Lexus is $950 a month at 0.9% interest. When I make the last payment in July it will still be worth $40,000. Depends on what brand you buy, but Toyota products hold their values very well. The only time I've been somewhat upside down on a loan is when I've bought a GM product.

I’d like to know how much of those loans is going toward the principal as well.
I bet most of those payments are more than 50% interest.
I had a loan on my first car after college. Once I paid that off, I committed to never buying a car that I couldn’t pay cash for.
