Truth is, I don’t even watch the news anymore or talk radio for that matter. You don’t need to in order to be inundated with this shite. It’s everyone on social media and the internet. True, I guess I could throw it all in the dumpster and pop a tent in the woods for my last stand, but it’s not come to that...

Maybe not yet, but to think letting this continue won't eventually impact everyone is foolish thinking. You can't allow stupid to propagate.

There is truth to the idea that outside of Twitter and TV there is a world where people largely get along and tend to be cordial to one another.

But "it hasn't directly impacted you, ignore it" is obviously stupid and it's the advice given by someone who supports the groundswell we're seeing.

We largely ignored academia for decades, and now it's completely unsurprising to hear a professor at a public university talk about how things like due process or merit or the empirical method are tools of white supremacy. It's a trickle down process whereby these "academics" influence hundreds and thousands of people in philosophy or critical studies or AA studies or education or social work. And some of their students go on to teach high school or instruct at community colleges. And some of their pupils go on to be community organizers and SJ activists who are on the ground instigating riots and providing materials to those doing the violence.

And I can't think of anything more "privileged" than a leftist telling conservatives not to worry about this stuff because it doesn't impact us. Essentially - "who cares, stop complaining, it's only black kids in Chicago and New York that are being shot at record rates."

Would need some statistics as to violent or non violent arrests around this.

Also, this likely doesn’t affect you much, unless you spend a lot of time around people that should be getting arrested.

Look, I don’t disagree entirely with some points made ITT. I think silencing people in this country sets a precedent that makes me uneasy.

Shootings in NYC are up like 300%

The riots and unjust prosecution of police is directly leading to fewer arrests. That is a chicken that will come home to roost if it continues, in the form of urban decay.

We've seen this before. It's quite possible some of this will blow over, but I think COVID (WFH, concerns about urban areas) and rioting and the impacts (lack of policing, harder to find police officers, etc.) will lead to measurable declines in urban cores. I think the question is whether it's a momentary dip or a serious and prolonged decline.
