Wtf happened?
Take your pick.
People live for the moment.
People dump their money on objects for clout and social credit, resulting in no savings or retirement.
Be smart.

It would be a big support group and growing rapidly
It will get much worse before it gets better

Just enough mental strain and lots of socializing. She moved to TX to live with my sister and help raise the first grandbabby so that worked out better.
Yeah, my grandparents were able to stay busy with the grandchildren. They also volunteered big time instead of working.

More like collective ignorance of personal finances. If these boomers couldn’t grow wealth over the last few decades, it’s their own damn fault. Gonna be much harder for us moving forward.
This! I’m encountering a lot of people who are late 50’s and 60’s who never bought a house. That was sort of unheard of 40-50 years ago. There’s almost no way you can keep up with the arch of your lifetime earning potential compared to cost of living if you’re still paying for housing late in life.

Employment rate for those 16-24 is at its lowest rate in 2 decades, for 25- 34 it is near its highest over same time period.

I’m run into several older Uber drivers who said they do it to get out of the house and make a little extra fun money.
The only drawback is that they tend to be the chatty types and I’m not always in the mood for that. Lol

I’d love to see a health study on 65+yr olds who maintain a part time job vs those who don’t.
I’d suspect that many maintain better physical/mental health by working part time.
If you don’t have grandkids to watch, how else would you fill your time without going insane?

My dad worked a part-time retail job after he retired in his 60’s just to get out of the house some. He didn’t need the money, though enjoyed cashing that check every couple of weeks for walking around money.

Opportunity is there for them to still work if they want to. If you don't like it, blame young millennials and zoomers who wont fill those positions.

I’d imagine a lot of the “older” people work just to stay productive and busy as many have said. Of course the popular opinion among the 20 something’s is that they must need the money or be irresponsible.
Reality is there are so many open jobs because teens and young adults with no college degree simply don’t want to work.

I honestly don’t know what she’d do without that.
She’d have to go into a nursing home and the govt would take her house, ss check, and whatever other assets she has as payment.

So if you take the average of the age groups it’s not good

Not sure how you arrived at that conclusion.
The average is right around 80%.
The data pretty clearly shows it’s the 16-24 year olds who aren’t working as much (60% in 2001 vs 41% last year).
