Surround him with people that will make him want to be successful in that area. He'll want to push himself.

The reason kids succeed comes from within them and it is drawn out by the people/activities they in which they are surrounded.

If you want him to be better at baseball, surround him with baseball players.

If you want him to be smarter, surround him with smarter people.

Sooner or later, life will become too full for him and he will drop all the things he doesn't love. You'd better hope baseball isn't the last man standing.

thanks, I think I just continue to raise my kids my way, and when you have kids you can raise your kids the way you see fit

It's really easy to identify the fat pieces of shite that never got picked in PE class. Sorry you're an uncoordinated unathletic douche, but that doesn't mean everyone else has to be a pocket protector wearing queer like you.

Sports can teach you a lot about how to work together as a team, handling failure, handling success, etc. Sorry you couldn't make the team and missed out on all of these valuable life lessons.

It's not valid to tell someone their opinion on children is irrelevant because they don't have personal experience in raising children.
I think it depends on the topic. "opinion on children" is broad as frick.

Also tell me if you think that means I don't value experience
Considering you called your own experience anecdotal, again, I think it depends.

You do realize this is how many successful children are raised?

Not really. Schools don't teach language well. You need a private tutor if you want him to actually learn.

"this" being what exactly? If I use your quotes, you'll just ignore them or turn it around or generalize.

Those without children can easily have opinions but the key word is easily. Its also easy for me to have opinions for other parents as I dont know their children in the same light.

Having kids is a process of understanding the needs and desires and balancing them as a family.

That doesn't matter even the slightest bit. You're either extremely confused or you're being obtuse.

His comment was a veiled attempt at an argument from authority. "You can't comment on children because you don't have any." That suggests that by having children, you are an authority/expert on children. Having children no more makes you an expert on children than having a body makes you an expert on anatomy.

By "this" I was referring to an attempt by parents to make their children well-rounded by finding interests their child has in a variety of spheres and then cultivating those interests.

It's not about promoting only what YOU determine the child should do. They child should also have an interest in the exercise or it's a lost cause. I implied as much with a previous post to the poster I was responding to:

quote:

I just pulled my kid off of his travel baseball team against his will. He's been a part of this team for 5 years.

I also pulled him off of his club soccer team last year against his will. He was a part of that team for 4 years.

What do you suggest I do with him now?

quote:

Start working with him/her to find his/her interests outside of sports so that they don't have to go through that exercise at the age of 25????

"This" is a way that many successful children are raised. It's actually a promoted method by many psychologists. You're acting as if that's a bizarre notion.

Link to where he said he couldn't comment on children? Again, you're changing the topic/discussion.

Because they are only kids once in their life. What's wrong with letting them participate in activities that they will enjoy.

Now is the time to enjoy things like baseball and what not.
