what if that what the kid enjoys doing? He's playing a sport he loves and he gets to spend the weekends playing it with his friends. Whats wrong with that?
Forgetting about the other siblings that are forced to tag along.

Yeah, that is obvious... to you I suppose.

can he play linebacker?
No. He plays football to stay in shape for baseball. He's not super aggressive like someone who would play that position.

I didnt mean to imply that travel ball is the only way a kid can make it in this sport. If a kid can play, he will be noticed and get opportunities.

Quit feeding these fricking trolls that don't even have kids. Raise you kids how you see fit. We have had this baseball talk every season, specifically travel. As a side note, as for the percentages of little Johnny's that go on to the BIGS. That number is very, very small as you know. But, out of the 12 kids on our summer team, 11 have signed to play college ball. 6 DI and 5 JC, they are not doing that because their parents are pushing, its because they love the game and are willing to put in the work.
Agreed.
My son and I were in the cages 4 days per week from age 8-11, and not because I forced him to go. He forced me to go. There were many days I just wanted to be lazy after work or go play golf on a day off, but it's hard to say no to that kind of passion. After getting home from the cages he would go outside and throw a tennis ball against the side of the house playing catch with himself.
He still tries to get me to throw the ball with him, but heck with that. I was a good player in my youth, but that's gone. At 46, my eyes can't pick up the ball well enough to catch a 90mph ball thrown at my head.

If my child finds something they love then I'll nurture it. The day they say 'dad, I'm tired of _____' then we find something new to try.

The other siblings are also involved in other activities which sometime force us to divide and conquer. It's a parenting skill that you learn once you grow up and have kids.

I'm guilty of being hard on my son when he plays sports, but it seems like the appropriate time in life to tell him he has to show some heart. I wish other parents would get their kids to try harder...then it wouldn't all be on my son to make shite happen. They look at me like I'm being harsh (to my boy), but they'd shite if I said what I thought about the effort of their kid.

Isn't your kid 10? Their kids man. Let them be kids.

I will continue to explain to my son what it means to show passion and heart out there...and when he's not doing it I'll let him know. You don't have to be good, but you have stand up when things get tough and be the kid your teammates can count on to keep fighting. I don't give a shite if no one else has that conversation with their kid, it's obvious they don't, it's time for my son though.
Every weekend is a new tournament...and a new chance to be the player you want to be...you can hide out there or you fight your arse off. I can't make you fight, but I sure as hell can comment if you aren't. No excuse, you are either happy with your performance (regardless if I am or not), or you could have given more... Maybe next time...10 isn't too young for the facts.

I'm speaking from personal experience from when I was a kid. and FWIW, I have 2 children.

Baseball is pretty gay to me, but it's a sport, and sports teach more than physically transferable skills. I don't have to like figure skating to appreciate it. OP has totally whiffed on the obvious there. Or they're trolling. I bet OP got picked last for all his youth baseball teams.

If your family can spend a reasonable amount of time and money in youth baseball of any kind AND in exchange have your child accomplish nothing more than being a starting player on a high school team for 3 or 4 years, it's worth it.
AND if the child is good enough to play on any college or juco team, it's worth it.
PROVIDED, that the kid agrees with all of the above.

Thanks. He has a pretty good pitching coach. He has a WS ring pitching with the Braves in the 90s.

Baseball is such a terrible sport. Got two boys 2 and 4 years old. If they insist on playing little league and are actually talented in the sport I will probably give in. Otherwise I will try to steer them to a sport that does a better job at keeping them fit and is more entertaining for parents to watch each weekend.
