Not really. People today can get things done exponentially faster and easier than they could in the 80s. Why work harder than you need to to accomplish something?

We also had Saturday morning cartoons, that alone should count for something.

It's a trade off. My kids have 24/7 access to cartoons. I'd have given my left arm for that back then ( I grew up in the 70's & 80's). But one thing they are missing out on is that thrill and rush you'd get as a kid when you wake up on Saturday morning and you know you've got a good solid 3 or so hours of non-stop cartoons. To us it was a treat, to them it's just another day.

If your neighbors kids play outside that's great, good for them and good for their parents. However, as a whole the way kids spend their recreation time today and how it was in the 80s is incredibly different.

Even if it is, so what? Who are you to say playing in the street is better?

Also...anyone could pretty get a home. Middle class was firm. A commercial electrician has just about the same wages as 15 years ago (not 80's but you get the point). Everything is more expensive now...wages are the same or at least WORSE (by a good bit) relative to inflation and owning a home is just about out of reach for a lot of people who don't have a mommy and daddy to rely on.

I would think that the major advancements in health care, smartphones and the internet heavily outweigh better music. They fashion styles of that decade were completely ridiculous and everyone should be embarrassed that teasing hair and wearing spandex was cool. I dont know what's worse, women's fashion in the 80's or college girls now with the XXXL T-shirt and trash bag shorts that make them look like a $2 trailer park whore.

This line gets spouted every decade yet people continue to purchase homes.

Oh I agree with this. I am basically talking about youth and stayng inside and on the phones and video games all day. That is why there is so many sad examples of Tennis players from the U.S.A. As an example. Plus there are so many people dependant on their cell phones it crazy. I have a co-worker who said her phone was her whole life. And she 45 years old. Thats really sad.

I bought a home 100% on my own very easily just a couple years out of school. There are plenty of opportunities and resources available to people to help them purchase a home.
