Growing up in Lafayette, Red’s was the epicenter of summer activities/shenanigans .
Yep, I can still taste those Red's hamburgers with ruffle chips by the pool.
Old trick of the 80's involved making a collect call to your parents to pick you up somewhere. You would use the place as the last name, the parent would not accept the $2 charge, but then know exactly where to pick you up.
Good times! Red's was the shite.

The 80’s were the best decade of my lifetime. I hit 20 in 80 and got to live through it as a just married man with things to do I never had to do before…. The sports were great the music was great the movies were great the President was great….. the only bad things about the 80’s were the cars…. I made a mistake and bought a fully loaded Buick Regal but I wasn’t smart enough to get one ordered with a v-8 in it….
Are you kidding? We lived the same life. I also turned 20 in 1980 and got married. Only difference is we bought the Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. I loved that car, but everything on it broke.

To me, the travel ball thing is a "status" thing. I played Dixie Youth but it was at a local ball park. Not all this stupid arse driving 4 states away to play in the World Series of the Week
Dude I have kids in both snd have coached both. Dixie youth and little league suck now, mainly because parents fricking suck arse. It's not competitive and most parents have desire for it to be.
Travel ball is not nearly what you think it is.

Do they or do they not travel over multiple states to play in the "World Series of the Week"? I recall a topic about all the "World Series" there are earlier this week.
Better thing to ask is how can it be fixed to get Dixie Youth back like it used to be?

Grandpas didn't go near the stove back then unless he was cooking a special occasion glory meal. Grandma did all the blue collar cooking.
My grandpa did the pralines and oatmeal cookies and that was it

Other than grilling all one grandpaw would do was French toast and the other grandpaw was peach cobbler

This is bullshite.
No it isn't. Only if it was a major injury did you go home.
Correct. My 80's born son came home plenty times with some dried blood on an arm or a leg where he'd scraped it and it wasn't a big deal. Lots of ant bites and mosquito bites and scratches from who knows what! The article exaggerated a bit, but kids didn't come running home at every little thing. Playtime was more important.

I don't think its from being ignored. I think it's because how many close calls and stupid shite we did. Especially the teenage years. 15-18 We climbed a water tower in the middle of the night, seen who could hold on to the roof of a car the longest on a dirt road before yelling at the driver to stop
You don't think your parents did stupid shite in the 50's and 60's? I guarantee you they did just as much as you are talking about.

When I was a kid, mom would only let us have one cup to use every day.
Maybe that's a 70s/80s mom thing. My sister and I went to the same school, but we had different lunch times. My mom would provide us with only one spoon to share. So I'd be halfway through eating, and my sister would walk up to me and take the spoon from me. "I need this for lunch," and she'd walk away as I tried to drink Spaghettios from my He-Man thermos.

My parents both worked so my and my boys terrorized the neighborhood daily during the summer.
We had dirt bikes and 40 acres of woods to play in.
From 6-7 years old we would all go roaming around all day, our parents didn't give two shits as long as we didn't get in trouble

+1
Born in 93 and pretty much my entire childhood was exactly like the first part of the OP, during the summers anyway

The bigger problem in my neighborhood growing up was a couple of nosy younger girls that would run off and tell one of their moms when someone got hurt. Then the moms would start calling each other and soon one would show up to check on us. One kid did have a concussion one time, so I guess it worked out for the better then, but most times the injury was no big deal.

Was someone born in 1980 an 80’s or 90’s kid?
Up until your 10 in the 80’s and 10-20 were in the 90’s.
