Yeah. A poster here who works in the ER said he would be half as busy if everyone put their phone in the trunk before driving.

Paramedic at fire dept, I've worked for sure 3 fatalities due to texting and driving, 2 were in same car. All killed were the innocent people in other car. Other times the passengers of vehicles where texter was driving admitted to police the driver was texting. That's just 2 that I know for sure. There has been suspicions on many others. I would say from talking to other firemen and paramedics, of all the fatalities due to texting and driving probably over half killed are the other vehicle the texter hits.

Texting/Distracted driving and drunk driving need more stiff penalties than exist today.

Texting while driving has been illegal in GA for a long time.

Sadly it does little to stop people.

I'm guessing the fact that there is no law is not going to save this guy's arse in civil court.

He won't have a dollar to his name for the rest of his life.

No, but there should be a consequence if you are caught doing it.

There's no consequence to texting and driving in Texas? That's news to me.

Texas is one of 4 DUMB arse STATES that do not have a law against texting and driving. Insurance rates are going up all across the country because of stupid people texting and driving.

How are rates going up all over if only four states don't have a law outlawing texting while driving. Its almost like the laws are ineffective...

I see this all the time.
Cars swerving lanes, etc. going slow, speeding up all while their hands are on the phone.

Read this, went to the shop for chores and decided to just watch for a minute, busy street. Say 30 vehicles passed in that time, I would guess 20 were looking at their phones and probably 10+ texting.

These laws aren't going to make any difference.

You need a law to tell you not to text while driving?

Apparently distracted driving laws aren't enough.

Although the new law only covered peer to peer messaging. So you will be free to continue facebooking and snap chatting away.

Legislation has been passed to ban texting and driving, it has not been signed and will not go into effect until Sept 1 , 2017

Except it is covered under distracted driving considering you are distracted.

Also, it's illegal in Louisiana, know how many people I know of that has gotten a ticket for it. A big fat 0.

I drive a fuel truck so I have a high vantage point, 9 out of 10 drivers are doing something on their phone, including state police and local officers.

The laws will do nothing unless enforced

Yet, to the OT, driving too slow in the left lane is the much greater sin.

Ever sit at a red light and watch people drive through the intersection or make turns while looking down at their phone?

Ever watched someone merge into the interstate with their phone out in front?

I also hate those fools driving through a crowded parking lot while playing with their phone.

It's really scary that people do this stuff in traffic and areas where someone can suddenly pop out of nowhere.
