Shreveport tries too hard to act like they're all "Cajun" and all about Mardi Gras and other things that they aren't, they should just act like and proudly represent the redneck part of the state that they are

I didn't realize Mardi Gras ventured up that far. Do they hold parades in Natchitoches, Ruston or Monroe?

yes

and nobody in Shreveport tries to "act all Cajun"

they have parades because, for the most part, people have a good time

I've been to a MG parade in New Mexico

There was a 30th annual in Fayetteville this weekend. And one in Eureka Springs. Lots of people will use any excuse to party.

Its very superficial and basic. Never cared when I was there.

yes they do, and honestly, for the most part they're relative newcomers to the LSU band wagon too

Shreveport PD is still calling this an "active homicide investigation"

Any death caused by another person is considered a homicide. It doesn’t mean it will result in a murder charge. The homicide could be ruled justified or accidental.

don't have time for such a lengthy post and the admins would probably edit it for me but I grew up there, and up until recently I was over there all of the time, since my mom passed I don't get over quite as much, but there was ZERO evidence or acknowledgement of anything Cajun, LSU, or really anything regarding south Louisiana until about the time LSU won the 2003 nc, and then the flood gates for the band wagon opened up, you didn't really see a whole lot of support for the Saints there up until their semi recent success either, I think the Shreveport krewes didn't even become a thing until the mid '90s and as can be evidenced by Shreveport MG it hasn't really evolved much, and before then the only "Cajun" food available was Don's

well this isn't true at all

the 3 main krewes were established in the 90s, but Shreveport has had MG parades for 100 years

your argument is that Shreveport tries to "act all Cajun" but then argue how they don't care about Cajun culture and south LA?

what?

Shreveport I grew up near thought they were a Dallas burb. Culturally closer to E. Texas.

That either shows your age, or a complete lack of awareness, or both. That is just a silly way to back-handed slap a part of this state, that although has some disticnct differences from much of the southern half, has significant overlap (good and bad unfortunately) as well.

this is a perfect description, and for the most part it remains to be that way

they try, but it's a pretty feeble attempt, look baw, I'm not trying to make a socio/political statement here, just stating the obvious of my 65 years of experience with Shreveport, it's mostly Anglo-Saxon protestants who don't historically celebrate Mardi Gras, it was not a thing when I was growing up there, there were no parades, we didn't get that day off in schools, hell when I got to LSU(1975,) I didn't even know what the big fuss was when my first Mardi Gras rolled in(I'm a quick learner though, ,) it's just my observation, and I think it's a very accurate one but really who gives a shite?

Salmon you've been here long enough to know that crapping on any part of the state above sea level with pine trees is cool. It doesn't have to make sense, they should be more like South La, and they should also stop trying to adopt things from South La.

but they don't

its just a parade and a reason for people to get together and have a good time

I went to all 3 main parades and no one was "trying to act Cajun" or whatever that even means

its like saying people try to Irish if they go out for St Pattys day
