People who get off killing animals, well that is a different story. Even if that buffalo is going to feed another family, he was doing for the rush of killing and not the kindness of helping other families. It is a fine line.
so you know the man personally? I’m a hunter and would love to go out west and kill an elk. Haven’t had the time unfortunately with work to go yet, but does that make me some pyscho? I can guarantee if I had the money I’d love to go on a safari hunt. When my grandfather died his biggest regret was never being able to go back to Alaska and hunt a grizzly. He saw one in the 60s when he was stationed up there in the Air Force and was mesmerized ever since. You think that’s wrong? Or is it something that magically changes once you go hunt in Africa?

That sucks. Sounds like you missed out

Not necessarily directed at you but let me explain first hand how this works. Corrupt locals cater to people to come for game hunts and its pawned off as "meat goes to locals ". In the end the actual locals get next to nothing (including meat and wealth), hunter gets absolved of guilt and the corrupt locals profit.

first hand? You’ve been on one of the hunts? Yes officials 100% get a cut, but some of it does go to the locals and it does protect the animals by giving them a reason to keep them alive, even though poaching still happens unfortunately. You stop incentivizing the lives of the animals and you’ll see poaching sky rocket, governments stop caring to regulate, and populations will plummet. Theres a great Ted talk from like 15 years ago you can watch on it if you’d really like to know. Quickest way to endanger a big game species in Africa is outlaw hunting entirely.

This story reminds of the time my uncle got hung up and stuck in a briar patch whilst he was turkey hunting. Damn near died, he waited over two hours for a couple of guys to come around from the other side of the property. He said he felt like "one of them NVA soldiers" tied up in concertina wire. He was bleeding all over, looked like a bobcat had ahold of him. They used a whole box of Johnson & Johnson band aids on him after they got him back to the truck......one of those big variety packs. Sometimes the hunter really does become the prey.

I just don't feel sorry for these sport hunters when this happens. I do feel sad for their families.

Me neither. Not that I think big game hunting is bad or anything, but if a cape buffalo busted into my house unannounced, I'd kill it too

Like all of the exotic animal “hunters” who travel to Texas and essentially pay to kill zoo animals eating off of feeders.

You sound emotional and envious. You cheer the death of another person with whom you previously have had no contact. He had a family. You have antisocial traits.

I don't eat house sparrows or European starlings, but I could spend all day gleefully shooting them.

I lived more than 10 years in Africa and not once did I get invited to dinner with Lion, Giraffe, Water Buffalo or any other exotic animal that "goes to the locals".

My wife is a local and she has never been invited to these soirees either.

Sorry you're less poor than the real poors that get the critter dinner.

Would you say, “I just don’t feel sorry for those people” if someone went on a European vacation and got kidnapped? Because that’s basically what you’re doing, shaming someone for having a hobby

If they went on a vacation in a sketchy area where that was a likely risk, like getting killed in a dangerous hunt, yes. I wouldn't feel sorry that it happened. Comparing a hunt to a vacation, just because they're linked under a very broad category of doing something they enjoy, is a bit of a stretch though. It's not to say I wanted him to die or someone to get kidnapped, more so indifferent, because a likely outcome happened.
