Why Texas is in Trouble (Forbes)
quote:
Last year, 78,064 state and local government employees made more than $100,000 each, and 18,600 of them out-earned Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who made $153,750.
Overall, Texas state government is drowning in $99 billion dollars in debt, according to Truth in Accounting. It amounts to $3,413 per man, woman, and child. By contrast, Florida has only $12 billion in debt and a $600 per-person liability.

I guarantee state pensions are a much bigger issue than snapshot salaries.

On paper and you don’t need a hefty salary when you get more than that from your lawsuit settlement.

State and Federal employees. Higher salaries, defined pensions.
Congrats, you are way out earning the private sector.

I wish I could work for a company that didn't care about a profit margin

Strange how Houston is under-represented besides the ISD heads.
FTR, Don Stockton (CISD) does a fantastic job and is a PhD.

How does a city manager in a small city like Laredo make more than double what the same position pays in cities that are 5-6x larger like Dallas and Austin?

Have you ever been to Laredo?

Wait until these people retire at 55 with full benefits and their replacements are making just as much. This is how you get BILLIONS of dollars of unfunded retirements. It's happening all over the country.
The NUMBER ONE issue in the USA today is BIG GOVERNMENT. We need to cut all of government in at LEAST half. It's ridiculous.

Those lists don't include lots of other public employees making bank as well.

I'm sorry.
No city manager or superintendent is worth even $200k.
Let alone 300, 400, 800!
WTF

Those are local problems not state of Texas problems.

I think $225,000 is a good cut off point (especially if you want someone competent). Anything above that is absolutely ridiculous.
