Gov. Greg Abbott has signed what he's called a "common sense law," making it legal for all children to sell lemonade at stands. Now, as long as kids have permission from the property owner where their stand is set up, they can sell lemonade.

The bill comes after a number of instances across the country where kids had their lemonade stands shut down or faced fines for not having the right licenses or permits.

quote:

House Bill 234 will block cities and counties in the Lone Star State from enforcing or adopting ordinances that stop children from selling lemonade, or other non-alcoholic beverages, while on private property or in public parks.

The House approved the bill back in March, followed by the Senate in May.

The new law will take effect on Sept. 1.

Dumb bigots need to switch to biodegradable cups.. I really hope they use pesticide free lemons picked by a farm that doesn’t support child labor.. they should really tighten up because I start a Twitter hashtag calling for a public apology

It's shameful this is even a thing... who on earth would shut down a kid for trying to be an entrepreneur. Sometimes the stupidity on this earth makes my head hurt.

It's a shame this needed a bill.

That said, Abbot seems to be one of the best, if not the best, governors in our country. He just understands what it takes to make a state successful and I'm obviously not saying that bc of this bill.

I'd love to see him at least run for president in 2024.

Another win for Texas !!!!!

In some areas, lemonade stands are usually in technical violation of several laws, including operation without a business license, lack of adherence to health codes, and sometimes child labor laws. Prosecutions of lemonade stand operations are extremely rare, but have been known to occur, typically to public outcry.

Next they're going to come after kids who mow yards around the neighborhood to make some money during the summer

MSNBC will dedicate 3 days of morning joe to this. Also claim Hillary was denied lemonade.
