death row and the appeals process are a joke

In situations like this where guilt is not in doubt, they are but the process is certainly not a joke for those who were wrongly convicted and later exonerated. Even those cases were guilt may have been in doubt all measures should be taken to make sure the government doesn't wrongly kill a person.

I don’t get the 3 downvotes. Bernie did in fact suggest that people in jail should be able to vote

How does one determine that guilt is not in doubt? Isn't that what a trial is for? But innocent people get convicted so how do you know one is clear cut and the other isn't? Who gets the deciding power?

This isn't as easy as you think.

I agree, but I gotta say I feel kinda good about this one.

surprised he lasted that long in prison, although I'll bet he had celebrity status among his fellow white supremacist inmates

Yes, but he wants for sure Democratic voters. C'mon. He doesn't really want convicted felons to vote. It's not really part of his view. It's not part of any ones' view. He just knows it will give him some more votes. That's all. He's being greedy and wants votes for himself.

But, let's not turn this thread into political.

The appeal courts are the deciding power that is their purpose. Regardless of how guilty someone may be, they should get to exhaust all appeals before being killed by the government.

To the ones who downvoted me, can you explain the problem in my statement?

He got convicted of CAPITAL MURDER and executed. What do you want, them to execute him twice because the motivation was racist?

As much as he deserved a crueler and more unusual death than Byrd got, it wouldn’t have withstood an Eighth Amendment appeal if they tried it.

I understand and agree, I was piggybacking on your post to respond to people saying these people should be executed the day after their conviction.

There are 3-4 posters in this thread that need to be banned. Not the time or place to spit any sort of racial bullshite.

Anything other than an upvote to the fact that he’s been put down is unacceptable.

The reason for the melt is the NAACP did a hit job on W for not passing hate crime laws in Texas by having Byrd’s daughter do an ad stating that W doing so “was like my dad being murdered all over again.”

It’s exhibit A of why I think so little of the organization.

you should consider chilling the frick out man.

People will always have different opinions than you.

Come to grips with that and live a happier life.
