Local residents told KDFM that large alligators had been spotted two weeks prior to the attack in surrounding waters, which prompted them to put a sign that read "No Swimming, Alligators."
Woodward defied those warning signs and jumped into the banks of the bayou around 2:30 a.m. on June 3. An autopsy later revealed that the alligator drowned him.

defied those warning signs
Tried to link an article where someone said that he was warned not to go into the water because of the Gators. He said "frick the alligators" dove in and almost immediately called for help. I sure hope "frick the alligators" is on his headstone...

I'm pretty sure he had the same opinion at the end.

He went out on his own terms. Not many have the eggs for that.

Actually he went out on that gators terms... They said they found bits of his terms (and eggs) inside that gator... He lost.

My boy Steve Irwin is rolling over in his grave.

His fatal flaw was night swimming. If he had that bravado a little earlier in the day he would most likely still be alive. That gator prolly felt like King Dingaling when that tasty meal fell in his lap.

So an animal that attacked and killed a human was put down. Isn't this standard protocol for any (non-endangered) wild animal attack?

quote:No. Some stupid rednecks went and found the gator and killed it on their own. The game wardens are looking for them actually.
