Where are you getting electric at 3 cents per kwh.

That is cheap. I pay 12cents

Around 2 percent of Americans own electric vehicles now. What is the plan for the grid when, say 50 percent of Americans own EVs and want to plug them up at 6 pm in the future? If the grid can't keep up with 2 percent in a heat wave, why would anyone ever think it could keep up with demand when nearly everyone is trying to charge their EV AND run an A/C, refrigerator, washer, dryer, etc?

How long do you think it’ll be for 50% EV market share? The most aggressive projections say 30 years with realistic ones that take into account modern ICE reliability being in the 45 range.

I would hope we can expand the grid over the next 30-45 years. If we don’t we’ll have bigger issues than worrying about charging our cars. But one thing to remember about EVs is that when you plug it in, it doesn’t necessarily start charging. You can control that and wait until off peak times when it’s cheaper. There’s also this whole thing about a couple TW of interconnected storage and what that does for grid stability. Also, don’t assume you need to charge your car every day, the vast majority of people only need to charge once or twice a week.

I would too, but you've got manufacturers pledging to be all electric by like 2040 in some cases and our grid is being asked to conserve electricity when only 2 percent of people are charging EVs.

I'm not one of those that believe that EVs aren't gonna take over. They are. I think it will probably be a little quicker than myself or others want. But we are gonna have to do a major overhaul of the infrastructure to keep plugging along. I'm a big proponent of nuclear energy and think it's ridiculous that this country hasn't pursued it more aggressively. It's not the nuclear power of the 70s now. But as someone else mentioned, politicians and NIMBY types are afraid of "nuclear waste".

You will lose access to those.

You won't have access to A/C in the future. You will get you food daily from food banks. And there are creeks and streams to wash your clothes.

other than a once a generational freeze in 2021, when has the Texas power grid failed us?

2011, when the exact same root cause happened, leading to load shedding to the tune of 30k megawatts.

As mentioned by another poster a page back, they were asked to conserve many times when 0 percent of people had EVs. It ain't the EVs.

“other than a once a generational”

Infrastructure should be managed with maintenance and contingency… and lots of studies predicted it and recommendations were presented to the state govt prior to the failure.

You ok with once and a generation failure of bridges also??

Keep closing your coal, natural gas, and nuclear plants and replacing with solar panels and windmills. This is the end result.

Because this is exactly what Texas has done, right?

"A heatwave is expected to impact the grid in Texas over the next few days," reads a photo of a message pushed to Tesla vehicles in Texas posted to Reddit last week. "The grid operator recommends avoiding charging during peak hours between 3 pm and 8 pm, if possible, to help statewide efforts manage demand."

Texas starting to sound like California

That's a stretch. If it was california, they'd just ban Tesla's from charging instead of making a "recommendation"
